“Oh, well…if you’re sure?” Mia murmured, taking the shirt from him.

“Sure I’m sure.” He shrugged. “Why not? Uh—you want to go in the fresher to put it on?”

Mia almost did as he suggested, but then a thought occurred to her.

“Don’t you think it will look weird if they’re watching the cameras and I go change someplace away from my ‘husband?’”

“Oh, yeah—didn’t think of that.” Sev frowned.

“That brings us to something else,” Mia said. “I was going to sleep on the loveseat and leave you the bed, but that would probably look weird too.”

“Yeah, I guess it would.” Sev eyed the bed uncertainly. “Well, it’s big enough to share, if that doesn’t bother you.”

“Why should it? I mean, we’re only pretending to be married. It’s not like we’re actually going to do anything.” Mia shrugged, trying to look as though the idea of sleeping in the same bed as her tall, muscular partner didn’t make her heart beat faster.

“Right.” Sev nodded. “It’s fine with me too. I’m a side sleeper, by the way,” he added.

“Oh—me too.” Mia nodded.

“Good—then we can sleep back-to-back and hopefully it won’t look suspicious.”

“First we have to get ready for bed,” Mia pointed out.

“Right. Okay then—I’ll turn around to change and you do the same,” Sev directed.

Mia wouldn’t have minded seeing her partner completely naked—though it honestly hadn’t much occurred to her before—but she had to respect his privacy, the same way he was respecting hers. They both turned away and changed quickly, dropping their towels and pulling on the night clothes that had been left in the dresser for them—or for Sev, anyway.

As Mia had thought, the enormous nightshirt—which would probably have been snug on her partner—was almost like a dress on her. It fell almost to her knees and would have been quite modest if it hadn’t had a deep V-neckline which showed quite a bit of her cleavage.

To make matter worse, it was also made of extremely thin, silky material. It clung to Mia’s curves and emphasized the pointed tips of her nipples which felt extra sensitive for some reason.

Probably just the fabric rubbing against them, Mia told herself. But did her breasts look a little fuller and perkier than they had been before? No, surely not—it was just the way they looked under the thin fabric of the nightshirt, she told herself.

“Finished?” she heard Sev rumble behind her.

“Uh, yeah. I guess so.”

It was embarrassing to turn around and face her partner with her nipples poking through the thin fabric. She tried to pretend she didn’t notice when his golden gaze raked over her body, but she couldn’t help sneaking a peek herself.

Sev shirtless and dressed in the long white sleep trousers didn’t look that different from Sev shirtless and in a towel, except that the thin fabric showed the outline of his heavy shaft, which hung down the inside of his left thigh. Really far down, Mia couldn’t help noticing. Good Lord—how big was he, anyway? She’d always been told that Kindred warriors were hung like horses but she hadn’t taken it literally.

“Uh, Mia?”

Her partner’s deep voice drew her attention and Mia realized she’d been standing there, openly staring at his crotch for who knew how long.

“Oh, sorry! What?” she exclaimed, looking up hastily.

“I said, which side of the bed do you want?” Sev asked.

“Um—the right. I’m always on the right,” Mia said quickly. She could feel her cheeks getting hot with a blush but she couldn’t seem to stop herself from blushing. What the hell was wrong with her?

“Great—I usually take the left so that works,” Sev remarked. “Pass me your towel, will you? I’ll put it down the dirty laundry chute with mine.”

Mia handed him her discarded towel and climbed quickly into the bed on the right-hand side. The white sheets felt cool and smooth against her skin—some kind of ultra-luxury, high thread count linen, she guessed.

Again she was reminded of an expensive hotel back home. Who wouldn’t want to come stay in a Smart house like this with such lovely amenities? People on Earth would be dying to get into this Dome. Which was another reason she had to prevent it—or one like it—from coming to Earth in the first place, she told herself firmly.

Sev got into bed beside her and immediately turned on his side. Mia turned on hers as well, but found there was a problem. With both of them on their sides and facing away from each other, the blanket and sheets weren’t quite wide enough to cover them. The front of her body was exposed and a shiver went through her as a chilly gust of wind found its way under the night shirt she was wearing.

“Ugh—this isn’t going to work,” she muttered.

Sev turned over.

“I was thinking the same thing. The blankets and sheets aren’t wide enough.”
