“I…I don’t believe in God…or any Goddess, either,” she muttered.

“And yet, I am here,” the Goddess informed her calmly. “I do not need your belief to exist. And I believe in you, daughter—that is one reason I have come to help you.”

“Help me how?” Mia whispered. “Nothing matters now. Sev is…he’s…he’s…” But she couldn’t make herself finish the sentence—it was too awful to consider that she might never see her partner—the man she loved desperately, though she had realized it too late—ever again.

“We will speak of that later,” the Goddess said firmly. “For now, all you need to know is that the male who calls himself “The Prophet” is an agent of another deity—a dark god from another universe that wishes to cause harm in this one. He is the Cruel Father and he wishes death and destruction on all my children.”

“What?” Mia frowned as she stared at The Prophet. He was standing in the middle of the small, circular stage, gesturing and talking rapidly—clearly trying to do damage control after everyone had seen him confessing to basically starting a cult based on his kinks as well as multiple murders in order to get more Concubines to fuck.

Then she realized something else. Somehow, staring at him—even though he was wearing The Charmer again—didn’t put her under his spell this time.

“That is because I am with you, my daughter,” the Goddess told her. “My truth cuts through all lying and deception of every kind. Now listen, soon this man who calls himself “The Prophet” will bring you up on stage with him. When he does, you must…”

She murmured directions in Mia’s ear and Mia nodded, listening intently to all of it.

“Be brave and strong, daughter,” the Goddess whispered to her at last. “I will be with you—all will be made right.”

“And now,” The Prophet said, speaking to the camera rig and smiling widely as The Charmer glittered on his chest. “I have someone I’d like to introduce you to.”

He beckoned at Mia and one of the Elders gave her a nudge. She felt her breath catch in her throat—it was just what the Goddess had told her would happen! Slowly, she approached the circular stage and allowed The Prophet to help her up on it.

“This is Sister Mia,” The Prophet said, pointing her towards the camera rig. “Alas, her husband, Brother Severith turned out to be a traitor and the Council of Elders had to expel him from the Dome. However, Sister Mia has decided to stay here with us in the PPP and learn our ways. And since she is far too young and lovely to become an Auntie, I would like you to welcome her as my latest Concubine!”

“What?” gasped Mia, forgetting for a moment that she was supposed to be mesmerized by The Charmer—which still had no effect on her while the Goddess’s presence was hovering close. She hadn’t expected this!

“Yes, my dear—I know you are not worthy and yet I am elevating you anyway. For I feel in time, that you will grow into this honor I am bestowing on you now.”

The Prophet smiled magnanimously and pulled Mia in for a kiss.

“Tonight after our Binding Ceremony I’m going to punish you hard, you little bitch,” he whispered just before his lips met Mia’s.

Mia felt a surge of fury and revulsion. Reaching up, she tangled her fingers in the golden chain that held The Charmer in place and yanked it hard.

The recently mended chain gave way at once, the weak links parting immediately.

“Hey!” The Prophet howled as he once more shrank down to his true self.

“Do you see this man?” Mia shouted at the camera while she pointed at him. “This man is no ‘Prophet of the Universe!’ His real name is Chud Brumpkin and he was nothing more than a janitor before he found this thing!”

She waved The Charmer at the camera, keeping it out of Chud Brumpkin’s grasp as he reached for it.

“It has the power to hypnotize and mesmerize. Using The Charmer and with the help of the Elders, ‘The Prophet’ has gotten all of you to buy into a lot of bullshit!” she continued.

From the corner of her eye, she saw the Elders backing away—clearly they didn’t want to be implicated in this.

“Everything ‘The Prophet’ told you is a lie! He just hates women and wanted to punish them for not wanting him. But he can’t lie to you anymore!” Mia shouted.

Leaning down, she smashed the delicate crystal against the marble stage—smashed it again and again until shards of it were scattered everywhere.

“No! No!” howled Chud Brumpkin, his squinty eyes growing wide with horror.

But at the same time, a deeper, darker male voice also cried out in protest.

“NO! NO—we were so close to taking over the world the Kindred protect!”

In answer, the Goddess spoke.

“You shall not prevail in my universe, Cruel Father. Be gone and do not trouble my sons and daughters again!”
