“What do you expect me to do?” I stammer out. “Accept my death with grace? Be grateful you’ve planned it all out for me?”

Grabbing my hands, he rips them away from my eyes. “Why do you keep saying that? For fuck’s sake, how many times do I have to say I’m not going to kill you?”

Unable to take this psychological torture any longer, I shout in his face, “Then what the fuck do you plan to do with me!”

Still gripping my wrists, his eyes nearly burn me with their heat as he growls, “Make you my wife.”

There’s no way I heard him right.

“What?!” I gasp.

Using his grip to pull me closer, we’re nearly nose to nose when he repeats, “I plan to make you my wife, Eden.”

What the fuck.

Seriously, what the fuck?

“You want to marry me?” I squeak because I still can’t believe I haven’t just had a fucking brain aneurysm.

“More than anything,” he insists as he stares at me meaningfully. “Hence all the preparations.”

I try to jerk my wrists out of his grip. “You’re… you’re insane!”

A slow smile creeps across his lips as his fingers tighten around me. “Yes, I’m glad you noticed. But that doesn’t change any of my plans.”

Utterly speechless, I shake my head back and forth. Partly in shock. Partly in refusal.

This can’t be happening.

It can’t be real.

Dropping my wrists, he moves quick.

One arm wrapping around me, the other lifts, his hand going to the back of my head to hold me in place. “I know you feel it, Eden. Feel this thing between us.”

Locked tight against his body, his chest against my breasts. His thighs hard beneath my thighs.

My first instinct is to deny I feel anything.

But it would be a lie.

Every little nerve inside me is buzzing with tingling awareness of him.

His heat.

His smell.

Fuck, his presence alone ripples across my skin.

Urging me closer.

There is something between us. Something I’ve been fighting. Something I can’t fucking explain.

But, “It’s not enough to get married!”

“Is it not?” he throws back. “Do you think I’ve ever felt this for another woman?”

I shake my head in more denial. “How would I know? I know nothing about you.”

Another lie.

I know what was in his file. I know he’s a murderer. I know he may have had a hand in the death of my father. But nothing about his love life.

“I have never felt this for another,” he insists. “In fact, I didn’t think I was capable. I expected to go my entire life without ever feeling it…”

He laughs a self-deprecating laugh, and I have no clue what the fuck he finds funny. “Now I understand what Lucifer and the others went through… It’s fucking maddening.”

When I just stare at him in incomprehension, his expression instantly becomes deadly serious.

The switch between emotions happens so quick, so unnaturally, I squirm a little on his lap.

Voice dropping to a husky whisper, he admits, “You’re making me feel something I’ve never felt before, Eden.”

He takes a deep breath and shudders against me. “You’re making me feel… need.”

My core clenches involuntarily and I jerk away.

Needing space between us.

Needing a full breath of air and a break from this insanity.

Only to have him pull me right back.

Even closer than before.

We’re so close now, I can feel the shadow from his lips caressing my lips as he says more softly, “I know you don’t understand. That it’s all a little frightening. Fuck, I hardly understand it myself. But I need you, Eden.”

Fingers tightening in my hair, I get the impression he’s about to kiss me. “I need to make you mine.”

Before his lips can touch me, I shove at his chest and blurt out, “I’m already married, you creep!”

A look of annoyance sharpens the determination in his eyes.

“Not for long,” he says ominously.

“What the fuck does that mean?!”

I never thought I’d ever fear for Kyle, especially after everything he’s done to me, but there it is…

I’m actually afraid for his life.

Jude growls, “It means—”

“I—I’m sorry to interrupt…” Amber suddenly stammers beside me.

If looks could kill…

Jude gives poor Amber a look that has even me withering.

“What the fuck did I say about bothering me?” he snaps.

All the color drains from Amber’s face and she looks like she’s about to burst into tears. “I’m s—sorry. B-but Eden has a phone call at the bar…”

I’ve never seen Amber nervous before and find it more than a little unsettling. She’s one of the most popular dancers in the club, second only to Lana, and usually has most of the men eating out of her hand.

Jude snarls. “And?”

Slowly stumbling back, Amber bumps into the table. “It’s i—important. It’s her b—babysitter…”

“Abel,” I say the second I think his name.

Sonya wouldn’t call if it wasn’t serious.

Shoving Jude away, I climb off his lap. No longer giving a fuck about whatever he has to say and ready to punch him in the balls if he tries to stop me.
