Burn.

I will. Just the executive way.

“I advise you, Mr. Grey to familiarize yourself with your place in my presence.”

His gaze immediately cuts to me.

“These budget meetings are mine to conduct and mine to decide if a reprimanding needs to be made. Your position is that of a department head who I put on a plane to sit in a room I designated to discuss with me things I wanted to be informed of. It is not within your power nor role in this company to chastise Miss Pennington or any other member of the company in attendance, and if you would like to remain a member of this company then I suggest you not only take note of your flagrant mistake, but that you also apologize to Miss Pennington prior to dismissing yourself early from the remainder of this discussion.”

The wave of delicious heat that suddenly rolls over me is unbearable. I do my best to distract from what’s going on in my crotch department by dragging the folder to my cross-legged lap to block the view. Pure animalistic like need rakes itself along the length of my back forcing me to sit up taller. Clench my teeth to hold onto my restraint. Partially shift my toes to remain secured to the space I’m in versus mounting my mate in front of a fraction of the company. Platinum growls and grunts and grumbles. He fiercely yanks on the miniscule amount of control I have, commanding we tend to the beautiful creature beside us who is steadily stroking her mark to the point I fear I may actually come in my pants.

In the middle of a fucking budgeting meeting.

Which would be far worse than that time I feel asleep freshman year in college to wake up to an unfortunate wet spot inspired by my smoking hot, long legged history professor.

“I’m sorry, Miss Pennington, for losing my tongue.” He offers her a small nod and then locks his focus on me. “And I am sorry for speaking out of turn, Mr. Draak. It won’t happen again.”

“No, it won’t.” Pushing the folder down is done in a desperate attempt to alleviate a bit of the pressure at the same time my head kicks towards the doors. “Miss Gibson.”

She hastily crosses over to the opposite side of the room, opens the door, and politely ushers Reginald out.

The instant he’s vanished from my sight, I ask, “Is there anyone else who has forgotten their place and needs to be reminded that you do not bite the hand that signs your paycheck?”

My rhetorical question is met by silence from the group yet heated, choppy breaths from my unbonded Fated Mate in need.

“Good.” Clearing my throat is done as I lock eyes with the goddess threatening to undo me in the most inappropriate nature. “Miss Pennington because you are a member of the HR department, you are authorized to assist Miss Gaahni in her presentation regarding an increase in budgetary funds. What would you like to add?”

Cameron finally releases her hold on her mark allowing a long, slow exhale to slip loose from me.

Thank The Great Ones for that shit.

Any longer—or harder—and I was going to have to “accidentally spill” the beverage on my crotch to hide a mess.

“I think granting the increase in budget she’s requesting could serve to placate the board members who are concerned with the practices of this particular branch. An increase in funding to provide appreciation for the employees in the form of food or team building exercises as she’s proposing showcases that you recognize their needs and are dedicated to nurturing them. Also, the increase could cover a strategic PR campaign in which you hire a few instructors based here in the city to train them on a couple workplace topics or lead the team building exercises, grant them permission to post that they’re working with you on their social media, leak that to the press, and allow the press to then post to the public about how you are helping better your company as much as the local community.”

For Dragons Sake how is it fair that she is strong, sexy, and brilliant?

More importantly, how in the fuck did I get this fortunate?

Unknown.

I refrain from rolling my eyes at him to present her with a nod of acknowledgement. “I will take that information into account when making my decision, Miss Pennington.”

“Thank you, Mr. Draak.”

Turning my attention to the woman at the exact opposite end of the table, I ask, “Miss Gaahni is there anything else you would like to add to what Miss Pennington suggested?”

She swiftly shakes her head and adjusts her glasses she bounced around. “I think she covered everything perfectly.”

“She is perfect” damn near leaves my tongue before I can stop it. Rather than risk the words leaving me, I motion to Tilda to conclude the meeting, which she does with her standard, “thank you for coming, he’ll be in touch” speech.
