Now in my ancient form, I unleash all the pent-up rage I previously wasn’t permitted. One by one I reach out to destroy the beings blocking my way. Some are simply crunched in the palm of my claw to dust. Others are grabbed, thrown underneath my talons, and tore in two. Useless bullets continue to ping off of my platinum scales creating an almost comical bell noise to their howls of horror and screams for mercy. The circling helicopters above are left with no option other than to focus their efforts on me; however, the change of direction grants E the opportunity to trap one set in a cone of frost while I engulf the other in an inferno of white-hot heat. The frozen solid aircraft plummets to the ground, shattering like glass on impact, taking out a few of the retreating elves in the downfall.

With our path clear, I launch myself into the air, recalling the ground countermeasures to avoid explained to us by Dai earlier in the evening. Soaring from their entrance to the building containing Cami—as well as her mother now—is stealthily done through the darkness. Upon our arrival, the power to the building is once more cut, giving us the outside advantage against the few members of security circling the premises. The plan to enter from the back loading section where they typically transport their abductees is in midmotion when it’s abruptly interrupted by what can only be described as a prisonbreak.

“Keep moving! Moving! Moving!” Roars a feminine voice I haven’t heard in hours. “Back of that truck!” My eyes frantically search the scrambling display looking for the source of the shouting. “Constantine, keys!”

“Incoming!” A male voice announces prior to them being thrown in the air.

Following the traveling object allows my gaze to land on my Fated Mate who doesn’t look exactly like she did when she was taken from the office. What was once an elegant piece of attire for work has been torn to shreds into true warrior garb. Gone are the long sleeves which would restrict strikes I logically guess by the way she lands a punch in an incoming patrol elf’s face. Banished is the material of the midsection allowing for her new, intricate tribal markings—that match her mother’s—to be on full display. And given the full flying kick into a forward roll she executes in order to regain possession of the keys, it’s safe to conclude that her lowered skirt has been repurposed for functional leg movements.

Sexy.

Agreed but not the time for that shit.

Assist.

I motion my head towards E to indicate the action and immediately dive down.

What feels like an endless line of injured beings hobble towards the rear side of the 18-wheeler that the one she called Constantine is waiting beside to assist them up. Heartbreak and hatred boil my blood alike at the sight of those without color.

Legs.

Eyes.

Some mutilated and mutated.

Others mentally absent.

Determination to destroy the monsters responsible roars out of me at the same time I land on a group of elves attempting to attack the fleeing hostages. My massive landing causes a mixture of the rain and their blood to drench the wounded creatures along with Cami yet rather than reprimand me for accidentally soaking everyone she shoots me a playful smirk.

“You’ve got wings, half. Little coverage for them would be helpful.”

Rising slightly up and stretching my body to its complete length not only provides complete shelter for those passing underneath, it presents me with a better vantage point for protecting them from incoming attackers. My talons tear off a hunk of the roof, instantly revealing to me the chaotic view of the interior that my fate-in-law seems to be handling all on her own. Bodies are flung from wall to wall and throats slashed with an ancient sword that I get the feeling is the real reason she let them take her to the building rather than raging out sooner. E continuously circles the area, eliminating unexpected threats each time they arrive and gently ushering the damaged victims inside their transport.

Thank fuck they thought to use this.

There’s no way they would’ve all fit in my DUV or on our backs.

Mate!

Platinum’s shriek shoots my attention over our shoulder just in time to see the giant from the video call yank her to the ground by her hair. She yelps in agony but doesn’t hesitate to fight back. Cami kicks and thrashes. Attempts to roll away. Grab onto anything that can assist in an escape. Unfortunately for her, he’s practically twice her size in width and height.

And unfortunately for him, he’s picked the wrong Fated Mate to fuck with.

Kill.

Abandoning my position to fly over and drop my talons onto his shoulders happens in a single breath. Their harsh hold forces him to relinquish his and the second she’s free, I propel us into the air to deny him a second attack on her. The giant targets one set of claws and ruthlessly bangs his fists on it, each blow crashing with the force of a small, brick building. Spurts of pain are felt; however, it’s not enough to loosen my grip. Damn sure not enough to stop my frame from folding inward to drive my front hooks through his throat and up into his skull. One sharp tug is all it takes to separate his head from the rest of his body, spraying my underbelly in his sewage-scented blood. Hurling his corpse backwards is followed by swooping back to the ground beside my Fated Mate who has resumed her role in securing the last of those in need of rescuing.
