“No, and I don’t need one. Now, I said not to keep me waiting.” I pick up my phone and hit the line for Sylvester, praying that he’s off the phone with Theo when the no-named man in front of my grabs my wrist, making me wince. Why’d he have to go for the one that hurts the most? “You don’t need to make a phone call. Go get Sylvester right fucking now.” He presses down on my wound for good measure, making me see stars. How in all of my luck does it manage to go from voices echoing in the halls, people coming and going, to now there being not a soul in sight? Still, I’m not going to let this guy manhandle me. The only one allowed to do that is currently in his office, door open with supersonic hearing, so I do what every girl was taught. I scream, “Help!” at the top of my lungs, making the sparks behind my eyes brighten. The man must see the error of his ways, or it could be Sylvester making his presence known in a way that tells this guy that Sly won’t let anything happen to me.

“Gotta go.” I slam the phone down, hanging up on Theo. Never in my life have I heard a cry so loud, so heartbreaking, and it’s coming from my Doe. I make it to the outside of my office in less than ten seconds, my heart beating rapidly, my mind racing at what the fuck I’m witnessing in front of me. Governor Wescott has his hand wrapped around Fawn’s delicate wrist, a wrist which is already injured, causing further pain.

“I’m here. You’re okay,” I whisper in her ear before acknowledging the dickhead in front of me. A low whine leaves her as her body relaxes into mine, and Goddamn it to hell, I’m going to have a conversation in front of her that I don’t want to.

“Sylvester.” I spin her around, hooking my hand so it molds to the back of her head. If she’s going to cry, it’ll be on me, not in front of Governor Wescott, giving him another piece of how to break a person down bit by bit.

“Take a deep breath. This will be over in a minute. Bury your head, Fawn,” I mutter. Wescott stands, watching my every movement.

“Governor Wescott, this is twice now we’ve met at a place you don’t belong. Once at my client’s and now in my building. Care to tell me why you feel the need to make your presence known?” I’m holding back, barely. Only now do I realize how Boston must have felt when this piece of shit went after Amelie. Thankfully, he only used words with her. It seems Wescott is getting bolder, laying his hands on my woman.

“You know why. Call this shit off. Do it now, or you won’t like what happens next,” he warns. Beads of sweat are dotting his forehead. I’m not sure what Wescott thinks he knows. The only hand I’ve shown is about Boston’s money, not the rest. Which means he’s getting desperate.

“Governor Wescott, I don’t give a flying fuck what you think you know or why you think it’s okay to come into my building, assault my employee, and make threats, but here’s one of my own. Touch her again, and you’ll fucking die. Nobody will know where to find you or what happened to you, not that anyone would care. Your son hates you. What about your wife? Does she hate you, too? That presidency election you’re running, how’d you like it if word got out that you attacked an innocent woman, a woman whose father is an attorney as well as myself, and over what? The truth will come out, one way or another. It all depends on how you play the game.” I don’t give a flying fuck who he is. I will ruin him. He touched what’s mine. Any marks on Fawn’s body belong to me. I’m the only one who will make them, and I’ll know exactly how she likes it, too.

“Mr. Sterling, security was called.” Another employee says as two officers of the building step off the elevator, ready to take the trash out for me.

“Thank you. Governor Wescott was just leaving. Should he find a reason to step foot inside my building again, please escort him off as I’ll be filing a trespassing notice today.” Fawn doesn’t need to be around this shit anymore. It’s been one bad day after another this week. The only highlights being our time together. Now this will further delay getting any more alone time with her. I could fucking kill Wescott for ruining a perfectly good day.

“You’ve got it. Governor Wescott, follow me.” Officer Blake and Officer Sargenti flank Wescott’s side.
