“How did work go this afternoon?” Daddy’s question wasn’t casual, but thinking about why he was very Daddy was too hard.

“It was long. I figured out the glitches and fixed stuff and then Kenton came in and then everyone came in.” I wasn’t tired, but for some reason, I yawned as Uncle Cohen petted my head. “Kenton was so excited for us he told Emerson and Emerson told Roman and Roman told Eli…and then, well, everyone knew.”

“Everyone?” Daddy sounded squeaky, and it made Uncle Cohen laugh.

“Yep, everyone.” Uncle Cohen kissed my head and then kissed Daddy’s cheek, making me giggle because I got squished between them. “But I guess it’s better to get it all out at once rather than drag it out.”

Uncle Cohen was smart.

“Preston said I won’t have to hide tomorrow.” But I kind of liked hiding because I got so much done. I was starting to see why Reece liked his door closed. “Eli said we’d taken long enough. I don’t know what he meant, though, because this seems kind of fast to me. But maybe time works differently when you’re nuts?”

Uncle Cohen and Daddy both barked out a laugh but took deep breaths and hugged me again. “How about we have dinner and then cuddle up with some cartoons?”

“Bunnies?” Uncle Cohen hadn’t seen my bunny jammies.

“I’m not eating rabbits.” Uncle Cohen pretended to shiver, making Daddy laugh. “We’re going to eat pizza.”

Giggling, I shook my head. “No rabbits.”

Daddy pretended to sigh. “What am I going to do with you two?”

“Bunnies.” Me and Bunny were going to get dressed up and show Uncle Cohen how to cuddle. “Books.”

I couldn’t forget that.

“That sounds like a perfect evening.” Daddy kissed my head again as Uncle Cohen stepped back. “How about I help you get changed and Uncle Cohen will get everything ready for the pizza?”

“Bites?” I looked between Daddy and Uncle Cohen before pretending to poke Daddy’s chest. “Fork?”

Uncle Cohen laughed. “You’re not spearing Daddy with a fork. It’s not a trident.”

Laughing, I poked Daddy again. “King of the Seas.”

“Come on, Your Majesty. Let’s get you all decked out for your subject.” Daddy took my hand, so I zoomed us off toward the bedroom as Uncle Cohen laughed.

As we zoomed to my playroom, Daddy called out to Uncle Cohen. “Cohen, find a vegetable to go with dinner.”

I scrunched up my face shaking my head as we went faster and faster. “Uncle Cohen…yummies…grapies…”

Grapies not veggies.

Collapsing down on the floor, I looked up at Daddy. “Grapes? Surprises?”

He snorted.

Daddy was so funny.

“Veggies, not grapies.” As I pretended to pout, he shook his head and went over to the closet. “Are your bunny jammies in here?”

Oh, Bunny.

Rolling over, I scurried over to my box, hopping like a bunny. “Bunny.”

There he was.

Holding up the bunny Daddy and Uncle Cohen had gotten me, I bounced him around the floor. “Bunny.”

Oh, jammies.

Hurry. Hurry. Bunnies.

Chapter 7

Bishop

Being exhausted was definitely making this easier for Ian…and Cohen, honestly. He’d been so focused on how tired Ian looked that he’d forgotten how worried he’d been on the whole drive over.

“Hop.” Ian seemed to have decided being a grown-up was overrated because as he held up his bunny and looked at the closet, he radiated little innocence. “Bunny.”

I wasn’t sure if he was still talking about the rabbit in his hands or the pajamas somewhere in the bottomless pit of a closet, but I nodded. “Yes, bunny, then pizza and a surprise.”

Ian giggled, bouncing the toy again. “One. Two. Three.”

As he laughed, I realized he was teasing me about the rabbit cookies. “We’ll have to see if Uncle Cohen can be talked into three cookies.”

Ian went very still then giggled like a cartoon villain before giving me wide eyes and looking wonderfully innocent. “Uncle Cohen, one, two, three.”

Clearly, he was of the opinion that it wouldn’t be a problem. “Uncle Cohen doesn’t stand a chance against a cutie like you.”

Ian’s giggles said he was thinking the same thing, so I wasn’t surprised when he scurried over to the closet. “Bunnies, Daddy.”

Obviously, I was going too slow with a surprise waiting for him.

He set the stuffed animal down long enough to go fishing in the piles of clothes, beaming when he pulled out the pajamas. He excitedly shoved them in my hands before diving back in. I wasn’t sure what he was looking for, but I kept the surprise off my face when he popped out with training pants with bunnies on them too.

I wasn’t sure if this was showing me how comfortable he was with me or if he was just legit excited over everything, but I took the thick underwear and nodded. “Perfect. Let’s get you dressed.”

“Bunny. Bunny. Bunny.” Hopping up, he raised his hands and wiggled, ready for action…and goodies. “One. Two. Three.”

And more giggles.

Yep, exhausted.

“You have to talk Uncle Cohen into one, two, three.” My response got more giggles from him, but he stood still as I stripped off the T-shirt he was wearing instead of the polo he’d been wearing earlier. Deciding that he’d probably had a shower, I helped him into the pajama shirt as he giggled and pointed to the rabbits.
