A knock sounds at the door and Jared immediately looks at me with big puppy dog eyes, pleading for me to answer it. “Nope, no way,” I tell him. “Today is my wallow day. And besides, you’re the closest.”

Knowing there’s no way he’s about to win this round, he lets out a huff and gets back to his feet. “Fine,” he grumbles, placing his bowl down on the coffee table and making sure I hit pause on the perfection that is Tarzan.

I listen as he makes his way to the door, wondering who the hell it could be since neither of us have plans. He pulls the door open, and I feel the tension all the way from the living room. “What are you doing here?” he demands in a tone that makes my back stiffen.

“I just need to see her,” I hear Miller respond in a pained voice.

Ahh, fuck.

“I think you should go,” Jared tells him, more than ready to hold him back. “You’ve done enough.”

“The fuck? What is it that you think I’ve done? Please, clue me in,” Miller snaps.

Jared sighs and the sound breaks my heart. “I had high hopes for you, man.”

“Good, because I’m not going anywhere. I promised my girl a date, and I intend to keep that promise,” Miller says with confidence.

“Come on, man. Cut your losses and run. You’re not seeing her today.”.

“Dude, don’t keep me from her. If I have to knock you out, I will.”

Shit.

I groan and flick my blanket off before setting my popcorn beside Jared’s. I get up and storm my way to the front door, hating how fucking delicious he looks in the doorway. “Miller, it’s not going to happen,” I say, pushing past Jared, who harrumphs and leaves.

“Fuck that, baby. I’ve waited long enough for you, and I’m not letting you give up now,” he tells me, with an urgency in his eyes that has me dying on the inside. “When will you see that we’re perfect together?”

“I did see that and I wanted it,” I tell him as a lone tear escapes my eye. “I wanted it so bad it hurt.”

He steps toward me and reaches up, making me flinch at his touch, but I don’t pull away as he wipes the teardrop with his thumb. There’s confusion in his eyes, but he’s not ready to back down just yet. “Then what the hell happened?”

“What happened?” I scoff in disbelief. “As if you don’t know. That chick was curled around you so tight you couldn’t peel her off if you tried. You made me look like an idiot and then adding salt to the wound, you go and take her home.”

Miller gapes at me a moment before a wide grin stretches across his face, his eyes dancing with silent laughter. Without warning, he rushes me, pressing me up against the wall and taking me by the waist. “You were jealous,” he smirks.

“Get off me, you big jerk,” I snap, trying to push him away.

“How many times do I need to tell you that I’m not going anywhere?” he insists, tightening his grip on my waist.

I shake my head, the tears still falling. “You’re delusional if you think I’m going to let you play me.”

“You know I’m crazy about you, which means you’re delusional for thinking I would ever try to hurt you. I haven’t even looked at another girl since I met you,” he says with such sincerity that it has my heart breaking all over again.

“You’re a moron. I saw it with my own eyes,” I snap.

He pushes me harder against the wall and presses his body up against mine. “Fuck, I love it when you’re angry,” he whispers.

Need pulses through my traitorous bitch of a body as I feel his erection pressing up against my belly. “Miller, you need to go,” I say, my voice breaking.

He takes a deep breath and leans back so he can look me in the eye. “Mia, the girl from last night. She’s my little sister. She came to surprise me at the game, and I let her crash at my place,” he explains.

Fuck. Sister?

“I told you, I want to be with you. I haven’t felt like this about anyone before, and fuck, I’m not going to screw this up,” he says.

“Sister?” I confirm.

He nods. “Little sister.”

My heart races as I take his face in both my hands and look him in the eyes, the tears only getting worse as the emotional rollercoaster exhausts me. “I’m sorry,” I tell him with every bit of honesty I possess. “I fucked up.”

“Yeah, you did,” he agrees, leaning forward and pressing his lips to mine in the open doorway.

Sophie steps through at that exact moment. “Fuck, you two give me whiplash,” she comments as she passes us, Tank trailing behind her.

A giggle escapes me as Miller pulls back. “Can I take you on that date now?” he asks with a satisfied grin.
