Unlike the first time, I bite my lower lip, so I don’t scream my head off. After the last shudder racks my exhausted body, I collapse against the broad expanse of his chest. My breathing comes out in short, sharp pants as I lay my head against him and listen to the sound of his steady heartbeat. He wraps me up in his strong arms and presses me close before dropping a kiss on the top of my head.

“Told you I’d fit,” he says with a gruff chuckle.

I melt against him as contentment steals over me. My brain wanders as I hover in that in-between space of wakefulness and slumber. Both my mind and body are exhausted. Deliciously pliant. It wouldn’t take much to drift off for an hour or so stretched out along Wolf’s muscular form. Even though his cock has softened, he’s still nestled against my entrance as if he can’t bear to leave it. And I find that I don’t want him to.

His hand strokes over my hair. “Will you come to my game tonight?”

Even in my relaxed, sleepy state, I hear the need that weaves its way through his voice.

My eyelids flutter as I stifle a yawn. “Is that what you want?”

“Of course it is.” His voice dips, turning gruff. “But I understand if it’s too painful. I would never force you to do something that made you uncomfortable.”

And just like that, I’m wide awake.

I lift my tousled head and rest my chin against the solid strength of his chest. “I’ll come and watch.”

He searches my eyes carefully. “Are you sure? My feelings won’t be hurt if you’re not up to it.”

I take a moment, allowing his comment to circle around in my brain before nodding. “It’s time to leave the past where it belongs and move on. I can’t live there anymore. And Miles wouldn’t want that for me either.”

“No, he wouldn’t.” His fingers thread through my hair before he closes the distance between us so that his lips can slant over mine. The velvety softness of his tongue dips inside my mouth to tangle with my own.

He pulls away before whispering, “He loved you so much.”

“He loved you, too. You were his brother in every way that mattered.”

Emotion flickers in his eyes. “I felt the same.”

“I know.”

He shifts me around until my back hits the mattress and he’s rolling from the bed and rising to his feet. My gaze slides down the length of his impressive form before settling on his cock. Even in his softened state, he’s still imposing. A little shiver dances down my spine as I track each movement. He hunkers down near my desk where he dropped his black Wildcats team backpack after arriving last night.

In silence, he tugs open the zipper and rifles around inside the bag before pulling out something orange and black. It only takes four long-legged strides for him to reach the bed. Curiosity gets the better of me and I pull myself up to a seated position as he resettles on the mattress and shakes out the thick material.

That’s when I realize he’s holding a jersey.

His jersey.

“I want you to wear it to my game. Just like you used to.”

A thick lump of emotion swells in my throat as a sheen of wetness blurs my vision. It takes effort to blink it away.

“Fallyn?” His voice dips, turning raspy.

I drag my gaze to his before jerking my head into a nod. “Thank you. I’ll wear it tonight.”

Air escapes in a rush from between his parted lips as he searches my eyes. “Are you sure you’re good with this? The last thing I want to do is pressure you.”

“You’re not.” I hug the material to my chest. “I want to be there for you in all the ways I wasn’t these past years.”

His hand snakes around the nape of my neck before dragging me to him and pressing his lips against mine.

“That means everything to me, angel.”

Chapter 34

Wolf

I slide from one end of the goal to the other, warming up my hips before dropping to my knees and quickly popping back up again as my teammates circle their half of the ice. The puck drops in thirty. Even though I should be one hundred percent focused on the upcoming game, my gaze continually drifts to the stands, searching for Fallyn as warmups get underway.

A pit the size of Texas settles at the bottom of my gut.

What if she’s a no show?

What if she changed her mind at the last minute and doesn’t want to watch me play?

Or…

Maybe she changed her mind altogether and doesn’t want anything to do with me.

Maybe I came on too strong, and it freaked her out.

After everything I revealed, there’s no way to walk it back again. No way to put all the emotions I feel for her in a box and pretend they don’t exist.
