“Well, I was talking with my mother, and she asked me point-blank if I could forgive you.” I swallow down and avoid looking at him. “And if I couldn’t forgive you, I should just let you go and not even bother.” Now I look over at him. He never takes his eyes off the road, but I can tell with the way his hand holds on tighter to mine that he’s nervous. “So I sat down and I made a list of the pros and cons of staying with you.”

“And?” he asks the question, stopping at the red light but not turning to look at me. His hand holds on to the steering wheel while his index finger taps it nervously.

I squeeze his hand, hoping he looks at me, but the light turns green. “Well, to be honest with you, the only thing you had on the con side was kissing another girl. Everything else was a pro. You are kind and considerate. You listen, and you make me laugh. You are good in bed.” His head turns now.

“Just good?” I roll my eyes at his question.

“Great in bed.” I shake my head. “Anyway, needless to say, all you had was that one mistake.”

“It was a huge mistake. One I’ll never do again.”

“I believe you,” I finally say the words, “and I forgive you.”

He pulls into the underground parking garage that family members use, parking right beside Abigail’s SUV. “You ready?” I ask, and instead of answering me, he reaches over to grab my face and pulls me to him. His lips crash on mine as he kisses me. “I won’t let you down,” he reassures me softly, his thumbs rubbing my cheeks.

“You better not, or I’ll cut your dick off.” I kiss him. “And you’ll never find it again.”

He laughs, letting go of my face, my hand grabbing the door handle. “Now, let’s get this over with.” I get out and wait for him at the back of the truck.

He walks over and slips his hand in mine before we walk into the elevator that takes us up to the owner suites. My heart starts to speed up as we get closer and closer to my family. I can hear the commotion already as soon as we step out of the elevators. “It’s going to be fine,” he says, right before the door swings open and my uncle Matthew stands there with a smile on his face. But the minute he sees me and then looks over at Romeo, his smile fades and then turns into a glare when he sees our hands.

“Hey, Uncle Matthew,” I say, extra perky. “Good to see you.” I step forward and kiss his cheek. “You remember Romeo,” I say as I step back.

Romeo extends his hand that isn’t holding mine to shake his. “Nice to see you again,” he says.

My uncle Matthew puts out his hand and grumbles, “I’ll be watching you.”

“Why are you still here?” my uncle Max says from behind him and then sees me standing here. He smiles also and then glares when he sees me holding Romeo’s hand. “So.” He folds his hands over his chest, making his chest puff out even more. “You showed up.”

“Max,” Romeo says, nodding at him, “pleasure to see you again.”

“Yeah,” he says. “You keep those hands where I can see them.” He motions down to our hands, and Matthew turns to look at him.

“That’s my line,” he huffs, making Max roll his eyes. “Why do you always steal my lines?” he asks, walking out of the suite. “I swear you just want to be me.”

I watch the both of them bicker as they walk down the hall and I have no idea where they are going. I turn back and look at Romeo. “That wasn’t so bad,” he tells me.

I laugh as I walk into the suite. All the chattering that was going on immediately stops as if you turned the switch off. You could hear a pin drop. “Hey, everybody,” I greet, holding up my free hand. Erika, Franny, Vivienne, Julia, Jillian, and Alex all look over at me with big eyes. Christopher and Matty just puff up like Uncle Max did, making me roll my eyes. They stand by the long tabletop, looking out at the hockey game.

“Hey,” I say once I get closer to where they all sit.

“Hey, everybody, my ass,” Franny says to me. “I texted you?”

“I got it but figured since we were coming here that, you know, I’d see you here,” I say, trying not to sound nervous. “You guys remember Romeo, don’t you?”

“I do,” Franny says. “I dabbled a bit in the acting game.”

Vivienne just laughs. “You had a leaked private sex tape. That isn’t dabbling in the acting game.”

Franny just hits her arm while everyone laughs. “I meant in high school, you dick.” She then turns to us again. “But I did have a sex tape,” she states proudly.
