There was an army of men behind these two, but even without that, they could do some major damage. Not just with their fists, though they did look like MMA fighters in expensive suits. These two could beat the shit out of you with their minds.

“You’ve been filled in?”

Vincent nodded.

“This is quite a situation we have, Devlin.”

‘Yes, it is.’

“You know where this girl is?”

I stiffened up, waiting for Dev to answer. He wouldn’t give up Lucky or the girl no matter what. I knew that, but I was still fucking tense.

“I do.”

“Are you here to tell me?”

“No.”

Vincent stared at Dev hard and then sat back in his chair.

“Good.” He waved his hand. “I don’t want to know.”

“What does that mean, exactly?”

“Have her lay low for a while. Paulie is the only one outside this room who knows what happened. He did what he had to do but there will be questions. He won’t say a thing. But just in case, she should hang back.”

“You’re sure he won’t spill?”

Vincent nodded.

“He’s upset about what happened to the girl.”

“He has a daughter,” Antonio added. “He doesn’t like to see females mistreated.”

Dev and I exchanged glances. But Vincent wasn’t done talking.

“We don’t know what happened exactly. Maybe it was someone else with a grudge. Sal had enemies in the family as well as outside it. As for the girl, her debt was repaid. That’s why she moved on.”

Dev nodded wisely. I was glad he knew what the fuck was going on, because I sure as shit didn’t. It sounded like they were saying they weren’t going to go after Kirsten or Lucky.

Vince’s next words confirmed it.

“Tell that fucker that he better treat her right.”

“I will.”

I still wasn’t clear on what was happening

“And if they come back after a while?”

“We’ll look the other way. Just tell Lucky not to be a dumb fuck about it.”

I resisted the urge not make a joke about Lucky being a perpetual pain in the ass. Now was not the time. We all knew that was the truth anyway.

“Thank you. The club appreciates it.”

“We have a long history of mutual respect. I would hate to lose that over a bad seed.”

I knew they were talking about Sal and not Lucky. Relief flooded my body. I felt ten times lighter. Lucky and his girl were going to be okay. And selfishly, none of us wanted him to move away permanently.

We shook hands again and left.

Chapter 29

Sally

“Breathe, baby. That’s it.”

My husband took a sneaky sip of coffee and I glared at him. There were no drinks allowed in the birthing class. But Donnie had been out late last night, so he was on his third cup.

It was for a good cause, so I wasn’t mad at him.

I just wanted a sip of that coffee.

At six months, I was having trouble sleeping through the night. Our toddler was running circles around me every day. Thankfully my husband was a hands-on dad, and his mother and sister were always willing to take her for an afternoon so I could nap.

I was napping a lot these days. Speaking of which… I stifled a yawn.

“Don’t worry, I’ll tuck you in when we get home.”

I blushed, knowing what he meant. Donahue was a man who loved to eat pussy. Even now when I was as big as a house and almost too far along for sex. He just loved to please me.

Lately he’d been putting me to bed with an hour long session of cunnilingus and foreplay. It was pretty much the only way I got any real sleep. My husband was an orgasm making machine.

Class ended a few minutes later and we said goodbye to the teacher and other parents in the class. I always laughed when I saw my husband next to the other fathers. They all looked up to him and no wonder. He looked like a hawk in a room of canaries. Donahue gave me a suggestive leer as he bundled me into the car.

“Let’s get you home. I’m starving.”

“Donnie!”

“What? I’m married to a beautiful woman. A beautiful, delicious woman.”

I waited as he called his mom and asked her to babysit for a few hours longer. I couldn’t stop the hum of excitement inside me. My husband was a deviously skilled and wicked lover. He made me feel something different every time.

I hid it well, but I couldn’t wait to roll around in the bed with him.

In my case since I was carrying this baby like a basket ball, literally roll.

“Come on, sweetheart. Let’s get you into bed.”

I grumbled good-naturedly as he undressed me. My ankles were constantly swollen and I felt like a balloon that was about to pop. My breasts were so sore that I actually moaned in pleasure as he unhooked my bra and released them. He caressed them gently, knowing how sensitive they were. But there was a positive flip side to that coin: when he started to suckle me, the pleasure nearly made me fall back onto the bed.
