“Do I have to remind you that I will not do anything to hurt you?” She pressed a kiss to his lips.

They had gotten married a week after he’d been taken, and they wore the wedding bands. Alexander had insisted on wearing them. She loved this man so much. He’d been willing to sacrifice everything for her. She would do everything for him. Her love was absolute and they were bound together for life.

Layla walked with him out toward the forest, finding the spot she had located years ago. It was a small meadow, a very small one, with a few forget-me-nots, some daisies, and even some buttercups.

It was a beautiful sight. The place for romance and love.

With his eyes closed, Layla smiled. “Open your eyes.”

Alexander slid them open and then he frowned.

“Shit!” He went to cover his body, but then he stopped. “I’m not burning.”

“You’re not burning.”

“Why am I not burning?”

“I created a spell. You have a guard around you. While you’re with me, it will stay in place and you can wander around in the sun.”

“I haven’t seen the sun for over a thousand years,” he said.

“Happy Birthday.”

He looked toward her with a frown. “You were born on this day, Alexander. You don’t have a last name. You were born before last names were around.” She had loved doing his research. “I do know that your family line evolved and now goes by the name Smith.”

“Yes.”

“And I will make sure nothing happens to them.”

“How did I get so lucky?” He wrapped his arms around her and pulled her close. “Layla, I love you more than anything in this world.”

“And I love you.”

She knew the danger wasn’t gone. Disaster of the Otherworld was out there. While they were getting strong, waiting for the right moment to attack, they were getting ready. They would stop this cult before it did any damage. They had to preserve all life. Everyone had a right to find the love of their life, just like she had.

There was nothing better in the world.
