“You’re going to do what?”

Lori grabbed her neck. There was nothing around her neck but she kept struggling and he saw her turning redder.

“You wanted to kill my best friend. You tried to take her spot.” Layla threw Lori against a large rock.

This happened repeatedly.

And then Alexander understood why. He had heard a rumor, many years ago, about Lori. How she would hurt people, throwing rocks, or killing them by smashing them with rocks.

Layla was serving her sweet karma, as Lori was powerless against it. There was no stopping it. Once Layla was done, she tossed Lori in front of Brandon.

“I expect you to finish the job,” Layla said.

As the Alpha, Layla had just shown him respect.

Brandon didn’t hesitate. Even as Lori begged. There was no stopping what was about to happen, as he grabbed her neck and snapped it, ending her life.

The wolf then turned toward him about to remove the final chain. Only he didn’t get the chance as the chains were ripped from him, and before he knew what was happening, he was in the warlock’s grasp.

Alexander saw some of the cult was already dead.

Lewis, Darcy, and Drake had entered the circle, along with Crazy Lizzie.

Now it was just the warlock and two witches left to die. Alexander didn’t like being used as a hostage. In fact, he fucking hated it. His teeth began to elongate and the strength he knew he possessed, built.

“Come here, child,” Warlock said.

“Child? It would seem I could teach you a few things,” Layla said.

There were hisses coming from the witches who were not happy with her insult. Layla merely smiled. His woman could handle herself. There was nothing to fear. Alexander knew that whatever had happened, it had brought forward her witch, her powers, her ability.

“You will die,” the warlock said. “It has been foretold.”

“Not today,” Alexander said.

He spun around, sinking his teeth into the warlock’s neck, and sucking him dry. As he did this, the witches fled, and the warlock didn’t let go until he was dead. Allowing him to drop to the floor, he reached down, grabbed the man’s dead arm, and wiped his face of the blood.

Alexander realized he just had his first feeding in front of Layla.

He spun around to see what damage he’d done, and he only just had time to catch her as she threw herself into his arms.

“I’ve got you,” he said.

He held her tightly against his body.

“I can’t believe they took you.” She pulled away. “Are you all right?” Her eyes had returned to blue, and he saw the vines that had been traveling her body also disappeared.

She looked … normal.

“I’m fine, my sweet.” He stared into her eyes. “You came for me?”

“Yes, of course I’d come for you. You’re mine.”

“And you’re mine,” he said, pulling her in close and kissing her lips.

“Oh, yay, kisses, and I know what comes next,” Crazy Lizzie said.

“Marry me,” Layla said, the moment he broke the kiss.

This took him by surprise. “What?”

“Marry me, Alexander. Please.” She frowned. “I think I’m begging.”

“I’m supposed to be the one to ask you.”

Crazy Lizzie tutted. “You didn’t get in there fast enough, fang boy. Come on, we all know you want to marry her. You’ve been waiting, like a millennia for the right woman, and now she is right here, in front of you.”

He ignored the woman who continued to talk as if people were listening. Staring into his woman’s eyes, he knew there was nowhere else he’d want to be.

“Yes, I’ll marry you.”

Layla smiled.

“We can go live wherever you live?” she asked.

He turned to look at Brandon. “I was going to ask if I could have a permanent stay at the Northern Forest Pack? I promise not to hunt.” He would do whatever was necessary to be with his woman.

“You’re not going anywhere,” Brandon said. “Besides the fact my mate would kill me for allowing her best friend to leave, we all know this isn’t over. We won today, but there’s going to be another battle in the future. We’re going to need everyone on our sides.”

“He’s not wrong,” Layla said. “There are going to be more chances. Disaster of the Otherworld, will not go down lightly.”

“We’ll be ready,” Alexander said.

Epilogue

A Few Months Later

“Keep your eyes closed,” Layla said.

With the help of Crazy Lizzie and her coven, she had finally been able to grant Alexander a birthday gift, and he didn’t have a clue what it was. He didn’t have a clue that she knew when his human birthday was. Alexander only knew his change date—the day he became a vampire. From her research, most vampires knew the date they were turned, so she’d been able to locate Alexander’s birthday.

Today was that day. She held onto Alexander’s eyes.

“Do I have to remind you that I will die in the sun?” Alexander asked.
