She turns her head and stares at me like the vixen she is and commands, “Fuck me, Jake.”

I grip her hair and ride her ass hard, fucking that tight hole until I’m coming deep into her womb. I know she can’t get pregnant, but that doesn’t mean I’m not hoping her birth control doesn’t fail like my own control.

Once we come down from our mess, we drop onto the sofa, looking a mess. “That was so good.”

“Tell me about it,” I say, kissing her temple.

“I just did.”

“Smart ass.”

I reach into my pants pocket and pull out the little box. Honestly, I didn’t have plan on how I’d do this, but I don’t want to wait another second. Holding her firmly in my arms, I kiss her lips and slide the ring on her finger. She gasps and looks down. “Jacob, what’s this?”

“I thought it was obvious?”

“I know what it is. I mean. Are we?”

“I love you, Vanessa. I knew it before I knew what I felt for you was more than as your protector. Something inside me has always belonged to you and I want you to be mine. Marry me.”

“Yes, Sheriff Lawrence.”

“Good, because I have handcuffs if you didn’t say yes.”

“Damn it, I mean no.” I pinch her ass.

“My little hellcat, we’ll save those for later.” I kiss her hard and start another round that I take to the bedroom this time leaving on only her ring as I drive into her over and over. We come together this time in a hot sweaty mess.

“So perfect,” I whisper.

“I’m sleepy,” Vanessa yawns, stretching out on the bed.

“And so damn delectable too.”

We’re covered in sweat, just catching our breath when my phone rings. I pick up my phone from my pants and answer it. “What’s up, Cyber?”

“Her grandparents just drove into town.”

I pop off the bed and search for my underwear and then pants. “Fuck. Do you know where they’re going?” I talk and get dressed at the same time.

“They’re going to her aunt’s apartment.”

“Okay. Thanks. I’ll be heading over there to speak with them.” I end the call and tuck the phone in my pocket before turning to Vanessa.

“What’s going on?” she asks, bringing up my shirt to her chest as if she can hide her perfect tits from my eyes.

I sit down beside her, kissing her lips softly once before telling her what Cyber said. “Your grandparents are almost to your aunt’s apartment.”

“Oh.”

“You don’t have to face them at all. I’ll deal with them and send them packing. Like I told you before, I refuse to let anyone hurt you physically or emotionally. They blamed their daughter’s addiction problems on you even though you had nothing to do with it.”

“Thank you for being here for me.”

“Always.”

“I have to get my writing done, so I’ll just stay here if you don’t mind.” I know she doesn’t want to face them right now and that’s perfectly fine.

“I don’t mind at all.”

I dress and slip on my badge with my gun before heading out of the house. I’ve learned my lesson to be on my guard even with the simplest grudge. In the past week, I’d been attacked multiple times because I had threatened to arrest two drug addicts.

My shoulders fill with tension as I make my way up the road toward the Castle apartments. I’m almost to the front of the building when I see an older couple, going inside the apartment. There’s a spot directly behind their vehicle so I pull up behind it, and step out cautiously, looking around for any other trouble.

A text comes from Cyber. They came alone.

He must be pulling a double tonight. Normally he doesn’t spend that much time watching the cameras. I wonder if something else is going on.

Thanks.

I step inside to find them looking for the mailbox. “Can I help you?” They both jump back; the woman grabs her chest. Fuck, I hope to hell I didn’t give her a heart attack.

The man notices my badge first and says, “Sorry, officer. We were looking for my daughter’s apartment.”

“It’s the first one on the second floor, but she’s not there,” I let him know.

“We know. We wanted to get some of her things and hoped to speak to my niece.” They bow their heads.

“She’s not staying at the apartment. Do you have the keys because I can’t let you go up there without them?”

“We do. We needed to collect the mail.” I walk with the elderly couple and I don’t say a word as I follow them into the apartment.

“Oh my God. This is how she lived?”

“The last few days when things got out of hand, yes.”

The elderly woman was in tears. “I don’t know what happened to her. We can’t lose her too. That’s how we lost Vanessa’s parents, and I hoped that Margaret would have stayed away from the drugs when her sister died, but she lied to us.”
