Clinging to my body rather than pushing me away, she allowed our tongues to dance in sin. My cock grew so hard I considered fucking her right then and there against the trunk of the tree, but the kiss was too intoxicating to break away. I inhaled her breath, then she sucked in mine. Our bodies merged as one, and right then and there, I vowed to kiss these lips again and again and again. A hunger erupted to not only have my dick buried inside her but to claim this girl as mine.

“I really need to go,” she mumbled against my mouth.

Our kiss froze in time, and I had to stifle the moan of disappointment that flooded over me.

No, I didn’t want to let her go.

No, I didn’t want her to break away.

“Stay,” I whispered, still caging her against the tree.

Her eyes fluttered open as she looked around to see if anyone could see us. Ducking under my arm, she completely broke the connection. “I need to go.”

“I need to see you again,” I said, spinning around and considering taking her back into my arms.

She ran her hands along my coat that she wore as if she were ironing our brief moment of lust away. She then patted her hair down to erase any signs of what we had just done.

“I need to go,” she repeated as she spun on her heels and hurried toward the manor.

I didn’t know what to say. I hated that I suddenly felt like a dirty little secret. And yet… wasn’t that exactly what I was?

When we reached the manor, I reluctantly said, “I’ll go find your stuff.” I went in to kiss her, but she ducked away from my move and began walking toward where her car was parked. Her mind, her heart, and her focus were clearly on leaving the Oleander as fast as she could. On leaving me as fast as she could.

“I’ll meet you at my car,” she said quickly.

I rushed inside to get her belongings. It wasn’t hard to find where they were, and I didn’t mind one bit being able to help her at least a little. It was the least I could do for allowing us to pass out in a drugged and sex-satiated stupor by the lake.

Part of me wanted to take her home myself and tell Mrs. VanDoren that Jasmine was with me and that I took full responsibility for what happened. But I also knew how our society worked, and me showing up with Jasmine the morning after… well… I wouldn’t be helping Jasmine one bit by trying to hero myself into the situation.

But ending our time together so briefly without so much as a real goodbye left me feeling uneasy. It was almost as if the night before hadn’t happened. As if we didn’t have the most amazing sex. As if we hadn’t connected in a way I hadn’t ever felt with someone else before. There was something about Jasmine that caused the girl to be glued to my mind permanently. I couldn’t stop thinking about her no matter what I did. And after last night, I knew there had to be more between us than just random sex at the Oleander.

We both had the noose of heritage, of family obligation, and of blue blood rules and dictates strangling us. We understood the world we lived in, and yet, there was something wild and free that wanted to be unleashed inside. I loved her spark, her abandon of norm, and her strength to reach out for what she wanted without shame. The girl liked the spicy side of sex, and I fucking loved it, but I also loved her for being open to the idea that she wanted to taste it all.

But then… I also knew this couldn’t last. Her mother was on a mission to marry off her daughter sooner rather than later. It was just a matter of time until the wedding of Jasmine VanDoren and some lucky fool would be the talk of Darlington County. Everyone would be not only expecting but looking forward to an invite to the event of the season. And when that all happened, Jasmine’s little secret visits to the Oleander would come to an end.

I would come to an end.

I couldn’t rely on her having the guts to come see me in the shadows of the night.

I couldn’t wait for the sex parties of the Order of the Silver Ghost to have a chance of being with her.

I couldn’t just stand back and watch her be married off, handed to another man, and then look back and wish I had done something about it.

JASMINE

I realized how freaking exposed I was as I sprinted towards the oak trees that lined the road in to the Oleander.

Oh my gosh, what was my life that I was sprinting naked under the morning sun away from the site of my sneaky midnight tryst? I giggled hysterically, then tried to speed up. Thank God no one else was awake yet.
