“You don’t think we’re foolish enough not to make copies, do you?” Walker spat out at his father, pinning him to the ground with his knee in his back, keeping his arm painfully wrenched backwards.

I bent over so that I would be in his father’s furious gaze as I delivered the final blow. “It’s time for you to retire from political office. And when it’s my husband’s turn to run for governor, you will be nothing but a silent support for him. When we say jump, you’ll ask how high. I alone will run VanDoren Enterprises, and if any of you Elders, with your wrinkled dicks, think you’re going to rebuild the Oleander, remember what’s on this drive and how I will not only destroy you, but each and every one of those men too. And I’ll relish doing it. It’s over.”

“You little bitch,” Jack seethed, all but foaming at the mouth in his fury as Walker continued holding him down. “You won’t get away with this.”

I just glared at him in disgusted pity. “No, old man, you’re the one who won’t get away this time. Your sins will stalk you until your dying day. I’ll make sure of it. And don’t even think that murdering me like you did all those other women will make me go away. Your son and I have put extensive insurance policies in place. Should anything happen to either of us, each and every one of your sins go public. You’re weak and you’re old, and if you come against me or your son, we will destroy you. Now get the fuck off of my property. I’ll make your excuses to my mother.”

Only then did Walker let his knee off of his father’s back.

Jack scrambled to his feet, but like I’d said, he wasn’t a young man. It took him some time, and he had to crawl to the porch railing for help getting up. Walker and I watched on dispassionately.

“Your intention was to break us belles, but remember, I always have the power to break every single one of you, if I ever choose to. So behave.”

His father strode away from us without looking back once. He wasn’t quite running, but it was near enough to satisfy me for the moment.

Walker turned to me, his hand suddenly shooting out to clasp mine. “Have I told you lately how much I worship you?”

I smiled at him, a wave of relief finally washing over me as his father disappeared around the corner of the house. I turned all my attention to Walker. “No, but you can show me.”

Mrs. Hawthorne had whispered, “It ends with you,” as she pressed the USB drive into my hand. And now I’d finished it. It was the end of the dark, fucked-up story of the Order and the Oleander, anyway.

But it was just the start of Walker and my story.

“Your wish is my command,” he whispered. And then he got down on his knees, lifted up my dress, and delivered a little bit of heaven after so much hell.
