Her short blonde hair was practically touching me on the face.

“I’m awake,” I rasped.

“I’ll go run and get the nurse. Get you some meds,” Tyson said. “They’re supposed to wait until you’re up to assess your pain level. Apparently, pussy is where your pain threshold is at.”

I flipped him off, jerking the IV in my hand in the process, causing a hiss to explode from my mouth.

“Ouch,” she said as she caught my hand and placed it back on the bed where it’d been previously. “Sorry about that.”

“Not you that said anything,” I admitted.

“No,” she agreed. “But I got him riled up because he was trying to explain the merits of adventurous sex to me—I was reading an Amish Christmas story which he thought was horribly boring—and when I saw him getting worked up, I kept pushing, knowing that it would get him pissy. He’s almost as fun to tease as Keene.”

“I guess I should’ve expected that,” I blinked at her. “You don’t really strike me as having a problem with rough or vanilla sex.”

She smirked at me, then narrowed her eyes. “I’m still mad at you.”

“I know,” I grumbled. “You have this little scowl line between your eyes that tells me so.”

She harumphed, then reached for a glass of water that was on the bedside. “Drink?”

“Sure,” I said.

It would be great to get some water down my throat.

It felt like I’d swallowed glass.

She brought the straw up to my lips and allowed me to drink as she said, “You have no more balls.”

I snorted. “I know that.”

“Your brother said that you came out of the entire surgery fine. They were able to remove your testicles, as well as the affected lymph nodes in your abdomen. You have a drain…” she kept talking, but I ignored that in favor of looking at her beautiful face.

Zip was gorgeous.

Brown eyes, blonde hair, tanned skin. Short and so fucking cute.

There wasn’t a single thing about her that I didn’t adore.

Too bad she was set on making my life a living hell anytime she could.

“Awesome,” I drawled.

“What’s awesome?” Hoyt asked as a nurse as well as Tyson came into the room.

“I told him everything you told me about the surgery,” Zip answered. “He’s most excited about having marble-sized balls.”

I growled.

“I’m just kidding.” She batted her eyes at me.

“She’s right. Everything went extremely well. And I can tell you now that it was just as awkward removing your testicles as it was removing Tyson’s.”

I gave Tyson a chin lift. “Twinsies.”

Tyson snorted. “Whatever.”

“Whatever,” the nurse giggled. “Y’all are just too funny.”

She was also way too upbeat.

She was giving me hives just by being near her.

“Want to see?” Tyson asked excitedly.

“My junk?” I asked.

Or lack thereof.

“Sure,” Tyson said.

“Are you talking about seeing his own junk, or your junk, Tyson?” Zip asked curiously.

“His, obviously.” Tyson rolled his eyes, then tilted his head before smirking at Zip. “Unless you want to see mine?”

“No, no, that’s okay,” she assured him. “I’ll see Nash’s, and I’m sure they’re very similar.”

They continued to volley back and forth, making me somewhat happy that they could get along and spar at the same time. But another part of me wasn’t feeling all that great and wanted them both to shut the fuck up.

Zip, apparently noticing this, moved until she was on the other side of the bed, in Tyson’s old spot, and out of the way of the nurse and Hoyt.

She closed her lips and gave Tyson a warning look each time he looked like he was about to say something.

“We’ll get you something for the pain,” Hoyt said as he gestured toward the nurse. “Go ahead and get him on…”

I forgot to listen because I tried to use my abs to somewhat resituate myself, which caused an explosion of pain to start.

“Fuck,” I groaned, unable to help myself.

“Don’t recommend doing that again,” Tyson said. “It’s not the most comfortable thing for the first couple of days.”

No, no it wasn’t.

Luckily, in the time that I was trying to breathe through the pain, the nurse had administered my pain med.

“I gotta get back to work,” Tyson said. “Since Mom and Dad just left, we’re going to do you a favor and not come back until tomorrow. We trust this little rabbit to take care of you now. We’ll give her a call for updates.”

I gave him a thumb up, which obviously was the only thing that I cared to offer him at that moment in time, and he left.

Hoyt and the nurse discussed a few more things, and eventually they left, too, leaving me alone with Zip.

I looked over toward her once the pain med started taking effect and saw her glaring at me.

“Still mad, mad,” I commented.

“Still mad, mad,” she confirmed.
