“Yes, okay? Are you happy? I admit I have some lingering feelings of… doubt. I don’t know what people will think, or how my friends will take the news. But I’m going to tell them, because whether you believe it or not, I do want them to know. The question is, are you actually going to be okay with the results? What if there’s blowback? How are you gonna feel when one of my friends lets it slip to the wrong person, and then the press finds out? Are you really willing to risk your contract— everything you’ve worked for— just to have the satisfaction of knowing I’m not ashamed of you?”

“You’re goddamn right I am. If you haven’t figured that out yet, you’re not as smart as I thought you were.”

“Well, do it then,” he yelled. “Fuck! I’m done trying to protect you. Like you told Steve, you’re a grown man. You can make your own decisions. I don’t care who knows. Tell them all. Fucking announce it in the octagon in your next post-fight interview for all I care. Just… don’t blame me if it goes bad.”

“I don’t need you to protect me,” I said.

We were silent for a while as I threaded the Rover through a sea of vehicles. Jamie kept his eyes trained on the spot right outside his window, and I squeezed the steering wheel and stewed over his words, wondering if he’d really meant them. If he was really giving me unconditional permission to come out and take him with me. Because if that’s what he was doing, shit was about to get real.

There were a lot of SUV’s on the road. I’d never noticed how many until I was driving one myself. It seemed a large percentage of them were Escalades, with a smattering of random other brands peppered in, while I had yet to spot another Rover.

After a while, traffic slowed and then came to a stop. “You think there’s an accident ahead?” I asked Jamie.

“No telling.” He didn’t look at me, and his voice was flat. “You’ll learn soon enough, traffic in this town is either Autobahn fast, or it’s standing still.” After a couple of minutes, movement in my peripheral vision caught my eye, and I turned to see Jamie having what looked like a sign language conversation with the guy in the Escalade next to us.

My first thought was that one of us had a flat tire or an open gas compartment door, but soon it became clear that the man was trying to flirt with Jamie. He held his cell phone against the glass, and I could see that he’d used the handwriting feature to scrawl out his number on the screen in red.

“What the fuck… Is that guy trying to give you his number?”

“Uh… yeah.” Jamie looked terrified. “I was trying to tell him politely that I wasn’t interested.”

“Politely?” I leaned across Jamie’s lap and held my middle finger up to the glass of the passenger window. The guy gave me the finger right back, and I almost liked him for it. “There. Message delivered.”

Apparently my comment amused Jamie. “Real classy, babe. Want me to moon him?”

“No, he’d love that.” I settled back into the driver’s seat as traffic rolled a few feet and then stopped again. I cut my eyes over at the creep, who was still beside us.

“Ooh, I think somebody’s jealous.” Jamie cocked an eyebrow at me and bit his lip, flirting deliberately with me. I tried to ignore the way my heart sped up.

“Not jealous. I just want to make sure other drivers adhere to the rules of etiquette. It’s bad manners to try to hook up in traffic.”

Jamie chuckled and placed a hand on my thigh, running his fingers down between my legs and grazing my balls through the sweatpants. “How about a blow job? Is that poor traffic etiquette?”

“Actually, it’s the politest thing you can do in traffic.”

He lowered the band of the sweats and pulled out my stiffening erection. His fingers encircled my cock, and he tormented my sensitive flesh, dragging with light touches, driving me mad.

“Don’t be a tease, Jamie. Get over here and suck it.” I grabbed him by the back of the head, threading my fingers through his hair, and pulled him down toward my lap. Only he didn’t give. Instead, he pulled against me, challenging me with an arrogant grin.

“Make me.”

His words went straight to my dick. He was riling me up on purpose, drawing my dark needs out of their hiding place and into the daylight, right in the middle of downtown traffic. At that moment, I couldn’t have wanted him more.

Keeping my hand wrapped around the back of his head, I used my strength to reel him in before I crushed my lips to his. The kiss was brutal and sloppy, with no pretense of romance. After I was done bruising his soft lips, I dragged my tongue along his jaw before angling down and latching onto the pulse point on the side of his throat. I bit into it and sucked hard, determined to leave the nastiest hickey possible, knowing he would be mortified to have to go home with the telltale mark. My heart surged at the warm softness and salty flavor of his skin in my mouth, and the feel of him squirming against me.
