I should have known he wouldn’t let me leave without getting what he’d been after from the moment he ordered me up here.
My submission.
I tested out a few responses I knew he wouldn’t like in my head, but each time I tried to let them rip, my injured fingers spasmed in a reminder of what would happen if I defied him again. Besides, I wasn’t done with my first act of defiance, so I guess there was no harm in letting him think he’d won.
“Yes, sir.”
Shame on him if he believed the lie.
Rowdy’s face gave nothing away, so I quickly left before he discovered the rest of my prank.
Downstairs the customers and other employees were slowly trickling back inside the building. Hudson was speaking to the fire marshal, who didn’t seem pleased to learn he’d made the trip for nothing. I wondered what excuse Hudson had given him for setting the alarm off.
When I returned to reception, Tuesday was nowhere to be found, so I headed over to my side of the desk to hold down the fort.
I stopped short when I spotted a familiar red envelope waiting for me with my name on it. Like the first time, there was no other writing, making it clear this letter had been hand-delivered.
My skin turned cold as I looked for the faceless, nameless person who’d left it. I wasn’t sure what I was expecting since whoever my anonymous pen pal was had gone to great lengths to keep their identity a secret.
Slowly, like I was defusing a bomb, I freed the letter from the envelope, held my breath, unfolded the intricate stationery, and read the neatly written message.
Atlas,
I’m so pleased you’ve found your way home. The stars have truly aligned. It’s up to you now to unravel the lies. I wasn’t brave enough to expose them, but I know you won’t let me down. Whatever you do, remember…it’s your head in the lion’s mouth, so I’d think twice about betraying me. The Kings will not show mercy.
Love,
Unrequited
Whatever the fuck that meant.
Atlas had already left the room when I noticed my tampered water jug sitting exactly where I’d left it. It must have been where she’d gotten the water from, so I grabbed it to throw away when something inside caught my eye.
Scowling, I popped the top and upended the jug to fish out the unidentified object that turned out to be a tightly rolled piece of paper. I tore off the tape and felt a smile playing at my lips when it unfurled, and I realized it was her misconduct form.
I couldn’t help reading her responses even though my gut told me they would only piss me off.

I plucked a pen from the tin can that used to hold soup and signed my name before opening the top drawer of my desk and placing it inside for my eyes only instead of in her official file.
Sitting back, I closed my eyes to regain control of myself. As soon as I did, though, I heard her soft voice calling me sir, and I palmed my hard dick through my work pants.
Each battle with Atlas made it harder to care about the rules or her age. I’d heard disobedient bitches had the best pussy around, and I needed hers in the worst way.
I shot up from my chair and proceeded to clean up the mess she’d made. Once that was done, I grabbed another water from underneath the sideboard, chugged a quarter of it down, and then headed downstairs to start my day.
Atlas was standing behind the reception desk with Tuesday, so I made sure to wait until I was in her view, and she was discreetly watching me from the corner of her eye before I uncapped my water and took a nice long drink.
While the untampered water poured down my throat, I watched her chew on her lip before turning away when she could no longer stomach the guilt.
Satisfaction bloomed in my chest, knowing I would always win every battle in this war between us. Because Atlas had a conscience, and I did not.
“O.”
Hearing my name, I spun around and found Roc standing behind me. “Sup?”
“Atlas told me she missed her shift Saturday, so I’m guessing that was the reason for all the screaming I heard?”
