He stopped at the beauty parlor and there was no sign of Harlow. Parking his bike outside the diner, he stepped inside, and sure enough, she was there at the counter.

Hunter closed the distance between them and took the seat at the counter beside her.

“You didn’t ask if this seat was taken,” Harlow said, glaring at him.

“That’s because I don’t give a fuck if it is or not. This is my seat now.”

“You’re such an asshole,” she said, growling.

“If you move, I’ll follow.”

She blew out a breath. “I’m not moving. You should be the one to move, not me.”

“I’m not moving. I’m going to sit right here.”

“Why are you being a dick?” she asked.

“Simple, I’ve got to be a dick to spend time with you.” He looked toward her and saw her eyes were closed. Her lips were moving. “Are you saying a little prayer?” he asked.

“If I was, then I was asking for Him to move your ass, or to send a lightning bolt straight through you. Either would do.”

“Fair enough.” He waited several seconds. “There’s no lightning bolt, so I’m going to take that as a sign directly from Him that He wants me to sit beside you at lunch.”

Harlow rested her head on her hand as she turned to look at him. Her elbow was on the counter, and she had the cutest frown. “Were you always this big of an asshole?”

“Yes, I was, and I still am. You found it charming and I’m going to guess you’re going to find it charming once again.”

Harlow shook her head but he saw the slight lift of her lips. “I don’t find you funny.”

“Right now you don’t, but that’s okay. I can live with that.”

The waitress came over and took their orders. Hunter decided to have the same as Harlow.

“You’re not going to enjoy it,” Harlow said.

“I happen to like salad and fries.”

“I don’t know what you’re trying to prove but it’s not going to work.”

“Not attempting to prove anything, just wanting to have some lunch with my woman,” he said.

“I’m not yours.”

“Harlow, the moment you agreed to be mine, you were mine.”

“And when you ended it, that was the moment I stopped being yours!” She had turned her full body toward him to glare at him, but now she spun back around and faced the main bar of the diner.

She looked so sexy when she was angry.

“Have you ever heard of people making mistakes?” he asked.

She snorted. “Is this what you’re going to claim now? You made a mistake?”

“Yeah, I made a mistake.”

Once again, she made a weird sound with her nose, like a snort.

“You don’t think I know how to fuck shit up?”

“No, what I think is you had your fun and then you got bored. That is what I think, and you’re not going to convince me otherwise.”

He was silent as the waitress brought over his food. She kept giving him the eye and it didn’t matter how many times he rejected that woman, she kept coming back for more.

“You’ve got plenty of offers for yourself, Hunter. I’ve seen the way the other women look at you. It wouldn’t be hard to find someone new,” Harlow said.

He noticed how she stabbed at the plate. Hunter couldn’t help but watch her. He was already aware of exactly how easy it would be to find another woman. With a snap of his fingers and the promise of a good time, several women within the diner would come calling. There were even married women who would wait until their husbands weren’t around and then go to him.

“None of them are you.”

Harlow frowned. “You know, I was pretty sure I heard a rumor that you have a thing for married women, don’t you?”

Now he knew without saying a word he was entering dangerous territory.

“Is that what this is about? You’ve seen me around town with Andrew, and now you want me again?”

“Harlow?”

“That’s it, isn’t it? It’s because I’m taken, or at least you think I am.” She threw her head back laughing. “Ah, you see, it all makes sense now.”

“It’s not because of that, Harlow.”

“Yeah, I don’t believe you.”

“You can believe what you want to believe, but it’s not because of that weak fuck that I’m interested.”

“Eat your food, Hunter, I’m not interested.”

She was being so stubborn. He was used to being around men who were equally as stubborn, but this one had to take the cake on stubbornness.

Before he could say anything more, she called the waitress over and asked if she could have it packaged to take away. The waitress didn’t help him one bit, as she agreed, and it didn’t take long before her food was packaged and ready to go. Harlow had already settled her bill as well.

He didn’t want to waste food, but he wasn’t going to miss an opportunity to be with Harlow. Leaving his food behind, he followed her as she headed back in the direction of the beauty parlor.
