“Ah, well, then I will have to give her back her number, because I’m on a date.”

Harlow stared at him, and she felt Hunter’s gaze on her back. She had seen him in the corner as well.

“You shouldn’t have to do that,” Harlow said.

“Why not?”

“Because … it’s … I…”

Andrew took hold of her hands. “Talk to me.”

“I’m kind of trying to get over someone, and I don’t want you to get the wrong message. I like you, Andrew. I know we haven’t seen each other in a long time, but I don’t want to hurt you.”

“Then let’s agree to be friends,” Andrew said. “I don’t want to rush into anything, but I do like you, Harlow. I don’t know where this will go, but I enjoy being around you.”

“You do?” Harlow asked.

“Yeah, you were the only ten-year-old I knew who could curse like a sailor and tell the world like you saw it.”

Harlow laughed. “Wow, that feels like a lifetime ago.”

“It was a lifetime ago. We’re older now, and I promise not to push, but I do like you, and I’d like to hang out with you, if you would have me.”

She didn’t know how he had gotten to be so perfect.

“Then, friends,” she said.

“For now.”

“Who the fuck is that?” Hunter asked.

Brick was too distracted by his food and looked up. “How the fuck should I know?”

He couldn’t take his gaze off Harlow and the mystery man. From the moment they had entered the diner, Harlow hadn’t even looked at him. She and her date were talking a lot.

He watched them, not interested in anything else.

Tapping his fingers on the counter, he watched as the waitress, whose name he still didn’t know, gave her number. He had watched her do that to any guy she was attracted to. He wasn’t interested in the woman, but Harlow’s date literally gave her number back.

Hunter tensed up as he watched the guy wink at Harlow, who he saw was laughing. She had lost a lot of weight. The dress she wore didn’t show it, but he had explored every single inch of her body to know that she had lost too much. She needed to take care of herself.

Hunter looked to see that Big Dick had stepped into the diner. He didn’t look toward his sister, and he dropped into the booth opposite him. They were not on great terms, but the punching had stopped. Hunter had also stopped just taking the blows now as well, and tended to block them.

The club always came first and Smokey had told them to get their shit together. Twisted Bastards MC might have retreated, but they were not gone. Hunter knew they were biding their time for the right moment to strike. He also knew that it put Harlow at risk. She had messed with that fucker’s plan, and if he was anything like Creed, he’d try to hurt her. Hunter was not going to allow that to happen.

“Ask him,” Brick said. “He knows who the locals are.”

“What?” Big Dick asked.

“He wants to know who the cock is that’s on a date with your sister?”

Big Dick looked around, and then Hunter watched as he tensed up. “No fucking way.” Hunter got to his feet as did Big Dick.

Brick grumbled about being hungry, but they were club. He followed Big Dick to the table. “I’ll be damned, little Andrew Lowe! I haven’t seen you in a millennia?”

Hunter had never heard of an Andrew Lowe, but he filed the name in his memory to check out.

“George Erickson, as I live and breathe,” Andrew said.

“Where is Alan these days? I haven’t seen or heard from him either.” The two men shook hands and Hunter watched as Big Dick slapped the other man on the back a little too hard.

“He is taking care of his daughter. He’s a changed man,” Andrew said.

“Fuck me, there’s no way that selfish prick has a daughter.” Big Dick shook his head. “So, what is this?” He pointed between Andrew and Harlow.

Harlow hadn’t spoken, she hadn’t even turned to look at them.

“Harlow and I are on a date,” Andrew said.

Hunter had to give the guy balls, he didn’t cower or try to pretend shit wasn’t happening.

“A date?” Big Dick asked. “And you didn’t even think to ask me for permission?”

This got Harlow’s attention. “I don’t need your permission to date anyone. Ignore him, Andrew. Fuck off, Big Dick.”

He knew she had stopped calling Big Dick George since the truth of Hunter and Harlow’s affair had come to light. Brother and sister hadn’t gotten along in some time. Hunter also knew that it hurt Big Dick to have any kind of bad blood between them.

“Sit, Andrew, unless you’d like to go straight to Ryan’s Place?” Harlow asked.

If Andrew left, he was a fucking coward. Hunter watched the man, not liking him on sight.
