“This week?”

“Yes. I figure the best way for you to get to know me, is to come and live with you.”

“Wait, hold up, are you crazy?” she asked.

She picked up her bowls, carrying them over to the sink.

“I’m not crazy. It’s a brilliant plan.”

“How is this brilliant?” If he was here all the time, how would she be able to tell him no? How could she be able to keep him at arms’ length? This was a bad idea. Terrible.

Even as her pussy started to go wet, she knew she couldn’t allow this to happen.

Why can’t you?

Because, he’s … Brice Ivory.

There’s no way I can allow this to happen.

“You know, I don’t think this is a good idea.”

“You should be seeing this as a great idea.”

“Why?”

“Not only did I read those messages from your mom. I got a call from her, and she asked me how I felt about a Christmas wedding.”

“Oh, God.”

“No need to start praying yet. Look at this as a good thing.”

“How can I look at this as a good thing? My mom is trying to set me up with you.”

“Exactly, and I haven’t gone anywhere.”

This made her pause. “What?”

“I’m calling you to come and spend more time with you. I’m not running away. If your parents know I’m with you, they won’t beg for you to spend more time with me. It will also stop them from visiting you more.”

“I hadn’t thought of it like that.”

“Try not to panic so much. I’m not a hard guy to live with.”

“Where is all this coming from, Brice?”

“What makes you think I’m not like this usually?” he asked.

“I’ve read the papers about you. A new woman every month. You never stay with anyone that long. You’re a playboy, and you love women. Do I need to keep going on?”

“And now I’m different. You ever thought I’m that way because women constantly throw themselves at you?”

“Did Sandy?”

“Yes. I don’t mind most of the time, but as they keep throwing themselves at me, I don’t exactly encourage it.”

She rolled her eyes. “And you think staying with me is the solution.”

“Yes. I’m a good businessman. Do you want me to go into great detail again as to why this is a brilliant plan?”

“No.”

“Then you cook. I’ll stop by the grocery store and pick up whatever you need, and we’ll catch a movie tonight. How about that?”

Nibbling her lip, she stared into her oven at the baking cake.

Would it really be so hard?

“Fine. Yes, that sounds great. I’ll get your room ready.”

“Don’t worry about it. I’ll share yours.”

“That’s not happening.”

“Let’s face it, you’re going to fuck me, Danielle. It’s only a matter of time.”

“You know, being that sure of yourself is not an attractive quality.”

“It should be. I’m damn good at what I do. You won’t be disappointed.”

She could imagine him winking at her, and she got a little thrill just by thinking about it.

“I’ve got to go.”

“What are you making right now?”

“A triple chocolate cake.”

“Sounds lovely.”

“The past couple of times I’ve made it, it hasn’t worked. Hopefully this time will be better.”

“You can experiment on me any time.”

“I’ve got to go. Drive safely.”

“Always.”

She hung up her cell phone, placing it on the counter.

“What the hell is happening to my life?”

She walked to the sink and started to clean the dishes. The cookbook was coming together, and she’d be organizing a huge taste test with friends very soon.

With all the dishes cleaned and put away, she got started on the chocolate frosting.

In between measuring and beating butter, she pulled the cakes out of the oven and placed them on the counter to cool.

After ten minutes, she tasted the frosting, which was her favorite. She removed the cakes from the pan, gently placing them on the cooling rack.

With everything done and ready, she started to write her notes in her extensive notebook, only she couldn’t concentrate.

Leaving the kitchen completely, she headed upstairs to one of the guest bedrooms. She went for the one furthest away from her room.

Switching on the light, she opened up the window and took out some folded sheets. She liked making beds. It gave her a sense of calm. Knowing Brice was coming to stay with her, she needed all the help she could get.

After seeing that newspaper headline a few days ago, her nerves were shattered.

She’d be lying if she said there wasn’t an attraction between the two of them. She felt something for him. Not necessarily love or that deep connection she always imagined having.

No, she … wanted him.

It was all down to a basic need.

Sex.

The only problem was, she didn’t want to be another notch on Brice’s bedpost.

She knew it sounded so stupid.

She didn’t want to be a notch on his bedpost, even though she didn’t want a relationship either.

It was complicated.

Especially when it came to Sandy. If he’d not been with anyone else, she’d have been more than happy to explore this chemistry with him. Maybe she was just overthinking it. He made her feel so many different things, and it scared her. She didn’t have time to even think about them.
