“I’m sorry to rush off, but I have to get going.” I stepped out of the shower before he could stop me and wrapped myself in a towel.

Instead of waiting for him, I hurried into my closet to pick out clothes. My closet was pretty bare these days, with most of my clothes packed into suitcases so I could take them over to the new apartment as soon as I got the key.

I grabbed dark-gray slacks, a pale-pink button-down blouse, and a nude-colored bra and panty set. I’d just stepped into my panties when I heard movement behind me. I turned to find Nash lounging against the doorway of the closet, a towel wrapped low on his hips.

Jesus. Fucking. Christ.

His shoulders took up most of the doorway and the light trail of hair on his torso that disappeared into the towel reminded me of what it felt like to have him inside of me.

“You okay?” he asked quietly, his eyes searching my face.

“I’m fine.” I put on my bra and started buttoning my blouse. “Just running a little late. Would you do me a favor? Go into the kitchen and turn on my Keurig? It’s getting old and takes a while to warm up these days.”

He hesitated for a second but then nodded, disappearing from view.

I got dressed as quickly as I could and then brushed out the tangles in my hair. Rustling in the bedroom told me Nash was getting dressed too. I’d just pulled out my blow-dryer when he came into the bathroom.

“Listen, I have to stop at home before I go to practice, but I’ll see you at work, okay?”

“Yes. Sure.” I nodded but then a thought occurred to me. “Nash?”

“Yeah?”

“You don’t think anyone…saw us? Leaving the club, I mean.”

“They definitely saw us dancing, but everyone was gone by the time we left.”

“Can you, uh, keep this between us, please? I don’t want to be the source of office gossip.”

“I would never do that,” he said, coming over to me. He rested a hand on the side of my face. “You can trust me, Sariah. I would never do anything to hurt you. Professionally or otherwise.”

I gazed up into his handsome face and the sincerity in his eyes made me want to throw myself against his chest and hold on tightly. But I couldn’t. Or at least I wouldn’t. This was just the aftermath of incredible sex and I wasn’t so young or naive to believe it could be anything more.

“Thank you. I’ll see you later.”

“We’re going to talk about all of this,” he said slowly. “But we both have to get going so it can’t be right now.”

“We don’t have to talk about anything,” I whispered. “It’s all good.”

Then I turned on the blow-dryer, effectively eliminating further conversation.

He watched me for a moment before leaning over to kiss my cheek and heading out.

I’d just gotten to my desk when Mo came over and perched on her favorite corner.

“You. Me. Lunch. Today.”

I chuckled. “Okay.”

“I want every detail, girlfriend.”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” I said, powering on my computer and avoiding her eyes. I already knew I’d tell her about last night, but not now. And definitely not here.

“Girl, don’t make me drag it out of you.”

I managed not to smile. “What time do you want to go to lunch?”

“Eleven thirty?”

I laughed. “Sure. Where are we going?”

“I was thinking about the new…” Her voice trailed off as she stared at something in the hallway.

I twisted in my chair to see what it was and frowned. There was a guy I’d never seen before laughing with Lance and Kevin. He was probably in his late twenties, with dark hair and a gorgeous smile. He was good-looking but Mo seemed mesmerized.

“Who is that?” I asked her.

“Knox Bachmann. He’s a scout for the team, and he is fine. Makes my heart go pitter-patter just looking at him.”

“You definitely need to get laid.”

“You can say that again.” She got up and started to walk back to her office, but paused and turned back. “Just tell me one thing. How was it on a scale of one to ten?”

I didn’t even look up from my computer. “Eleven point three.”

She was still hooting with laughter when she closed the door to her office.

I tried to focus on work, but my mind kept straying to last night.

Nash and I on the dance floor, moving together so naturally it was like we’d danced before.

Nash kissing me, his big hands playing my body like a musical instrument.

Nash inside of me.

I mentally groaned, dropping my head and closing my eyes.

I shouldn’t be thinking about him.

This morning had been less awkward than I’d thought it would be but more awkward than I would have liked. He said we needed to talk, which could mean just about anything, and I hated being in this position. I’d let wine and raging hormones overtake my better judgment last night and now I was going to have to be around him at the office. God forbid he told anyone.
