“I love you, too, Jenna.” He motioned his head towards Luna. “I love you both.”
“And you’re sure about all this? The moving into together? The having a kid around? It’s a lot.”
“I wouldn’t have done this if I wasn’t.”
It was fast, probably too fast, but everything I wanted was in that room, and there was no way I was giving up a chance to keep it. This was one dream I was going to let myself have, and no one was going to take it from me.
No one.
Grim
“I can’t believe you didn’t tell me.”
“I don’t know what to tell ya. It just slipped my mind.”
“How does getting shot just slip your mind?”
“We had other stuff going on.”
“I don’t care what’s going on. You tell me when you get shot.” Jenna’s face twisted into a worried frown as she checked my wound and said, “You need stitches.”
“I’m fine,” I assured her.
“You’re not fine. Doc needs to look at it and...”
“You’re looking at it. Don’t need Doc.”
I dropped my towel to the floor and reached for my sweats. Jenna’s face flushed red with desire as she watched me slowly pull them over my hips. Damn. I loved the way she looked at my body like she’d never be able to get enough of me.
I stared at her standing there in my t-shirt, looking sexy as fuck, and it was all I could do to keep myself from taking her right there in the bathroom. Sensing my thoughts, Jenna took a step back and said, “I cannot believe you!”
“What?”
“You know what!”
“Come on now.” I gave her a playful smirk. “You tell me you love me, and I don’t get to do anything about it?”
“You’ve been shot!”
“It’s just a graze.”
“That came from a bullet!”
“I’m fine. Now, come here.”
“Lawson.”
“Jenna,” I said firmly as I leaned against the dresser. My lips immediately curled into a smile when she did as I requested and stepped closer, settling between my legs. She placed the palms of her hands on my chest, looking up at me with anticipation. I lowered my mouth to hers, kissing her with a promise of what was to come.
The beat of her heart next to mine calmed me, refueled me, and that’s when I knew. She wasn’t my first, but she would be my last. I pulled back, and she gave me a puzzled look until I stated, “You said I love you.”
“Yeah?”
“You said it in front of everyone.”
“My timing wasn’t exactly the best.”
“Your timing was perfect. I just didn’t get a chance to make it official and let you know that I’m claiming you.”
“Claiming me?” Her brows furrowed. “As your ol’ lady?”
“To start.” I pulled her closer as I added, “But I want it all. I want my ring on your finger and you with my last name.”
“Seriously?”
“Without question.”
“I like the sound of that,” she answered before pressing her lips to mine. With just a simple touch, the kiss became heated, full of need and want. I couldn’t get enough of her. I reached for the hem of her t-shirt but quickly stopped when there was a knock on the door.
“Momma?” Luna cried.
Jenna eased back from our embrace as she answered, “Just a minute!”
She waited for me to put on a clean shirt, then opened the door and smiled at Luna. “Good morning, sweetheart.”
“I’m hungry.”
“Oh, okay. I’ll see what’s in the fridge.” Jenna took Luna’s hand and started out of the room. “I’ll be back.”
While I hated that we were interrupted, I figured it was for the best. I had been putting something off, and it was time to deal with it. So, I walked over to the dresser and grabbed some clean clothes. I’d told Jenna that I was fine and that my wound wasn’t a big deal, and it wasn’t. I’d had far worse, but it was starting to tighten up on me and made it a little difficult to get on my shirt.
But I managed.
I also managed to get on my jeans and was about to put on my boots when Jenna came waltzing back in. I could hear the disappointment in her voice as she asked, “What are you doing?”
“Gotta run to the clubhouse for a bit.”
“But I was going to fix dinner tonight. Will you be gone all day?”
“Go ahead.” I slipped on my boot as I told her, “It shouldn’t take me long.”
“Okay, but you have to promise to call if you’re gonna be late.”
“Not a problem.”
“And go by and see Blade while you’re there,” she ordered. “I want him to check that wound.”
“Sure thing, boss.” I stood and walked over to her. After a quick kiss, I told her, “I’ll be back when I can.”
“Be careful.”
“Always.”
On my way out, I spotted Luna in her room. She was sitting on her bed, eating a pack of animal crackers, and she looked perfectly content as she talked with one of her stuffed rabbits. It did my soul good to see her so happy. It made it hard to walk out of the house and head out to my bike.
