Seven had earned his name while in the military. He was a sniper and had taken out seven men in seven seconds. At the time, it was the fastest on record, and the skill had come in handy on more than one occasion. He’d taught Goose everything he knew, and while he wasn’t as good as Seven, he was close. Knowing what they could do, Prez nodded and said, “Absolutely.”

“Everyone needs to be sitting on go when she walks through that door.”

“Wouldn’t have it any other way.” Prez gave me a look as he asked, “That mean you’re on board with Shep’s plan?”

“I don’t like it, but I think it’s our best option.”

“I agree.” Prez grimaced as he added, “Now, we just need to make sure Jenna’s really up for it.”

I got up, and Prez and Shep followed me down the hall to my room. I opened the door expecting Jenna to be asleep, but she was sitting on the edge of the bed with an eager look in her eye. She sprang up and stepped over to us as she asked, “Well?”

“It’s a decent idea.” I glanced over at Shep as I told her, “We just need to make sure you’re up for it.”

“Okay. Let’s hear it.”

I inhaled a deep breath, then laid out the plan for her. She didn’t interrupt or ask any questions. She just waited for me to say everything I had to say, and then, she announced, “I’ll do it.”

“Are you sure about this?” I pushed. “There’s a lot that could go wrong.”

“He’s got my daughter, Lawson. He’s had her for hours, and I have no way of knowing if she’s okay or if he’s hurt her. So, yeah. I’ll do whatever I need to do to get to her. I just have one question.”

“Okay. Let’s hear it.”

“When do we go?”

“Soon,” Prez answered. “We have some things to cover, but we should be ready to head out within the hour.”

“I’m ready when you are.”

Jenna followed us back to the conference room, where Shep went over everything with her one more time. He wanted to make sure that she knew exactly what she needed to do once she got inside the building. Jenna listened and even repeated the important details back to him.

When I felt like she was getting the hang of things, I got with Seven, and we went out to the artillery room. We started gathering all the weapons and ammo we’d need, and I started searching for the device he’d asked me to grab for him. He didn’t have to tell me. I knew exactly what it was for.

I wanted nothing more than to toss the fucking thing in the trash.

It was bad enough that Jenna was going into the building alone, but I wasn’t exactly thrilled about the idea of her being exposed to some gas that was going to render her helpless. The only solace I had was knowing that we would be going in there right after her and would take out Delgado and everyone connected to him.

As soon as we had everything together, Prez called us all back together to go over all the final details. Once he was done, Seven and Goose left and headed over to the mill so they could find the perfect spot to set up. The rest of us headed out to the parking lot.

The guys were busy loading everything into the SUVs, so I took the opportunity to talk to Jenna alone. She was standing by her car and looked notably worried. I walked over, and as much as I wanted to pull her into my arms, I couldn’t. I knew if I touched her, I would struggle to let her go. “You don’t have to do this.”

“Yes, I do, and you know it.”

Jenna’s eyes were full of worry as she listened to me say, "I need you to understand how dangerous this thing is. There’s no way to predict how things will play out.”

“I know.” Jenna met my gaze with unwavering determination, just like the fire that burned within her. "You don’t have to worry. I’m going to do exactly what Shep told me to, and hopefully, everything else will play out like it’s supposed to.”

I stepped closer as I whispered, "Just don’t take any unnecessary chances... I don’t know what I’ll do if...”

“Don’t.” She placed her hand on my chest. “We’re not going to do the whole ‘what if’ thing. We’re just gonna face this thing head-on and do what we gotta do to get our Luna back.”

“Okay, just promise me you’ll be careful.”

“I will.” Jenna gave me a soft smile. “I promise. But I have one favor I need to ask.”

“Oh, yeah? What’s that?”

“When you get there, don’t worry about me or anything else. I want you to promise that you’ll go and find Luna.” When I didn’t immediately respond, she pushed, “I mean it, Lawson. I need you to promise me.”
