I take a breath. “He seems nice.”

He chuckles. “Nice?”

I nod.

He shakes his head. “I can see why you’d view him that way since you only spent a few moments alone with him between floors with an alarm blaring.”

I’m sure that my employment contract states that I agreed to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help me… gosh, I want to keep this job.

Fortunately, Mr. Thorsen is in a talkative mood, so he doesn’t give me a chance to confess that I’ve slept with Declan more than once.

He glances at the open doorway. “I’ve known Declan for a very long time. We’re friends.”

“I see,” I mutter, as if I don’t already know that.

“Declan and his brother own Wells.” His left brow perks. “The underwear brand.”

“I’m familiar with it,” I say because I am.

I saw Declan wearing a pair less than forty-eight hours ago.

“They’re looking to expand their offering.” He taps a finger on the table. “I don’t need to mention that this all falls within the scope of attorney-client privilege.”

Huh?

Attorney-client privilege? My little eye spots two attorneys in the room and no client.

“I’m not following, sir.” I shift my ass in the uncomfortable chair I’m sitting on.

“Allow me to explain.”

That shoots my gaze toward the door because that voice will likely always make my toes curl.

I spot Declan in a gray suit in the open doorway. He keeps his eyes pinned on me for a beat too long before he turns his attention to my boss.

“The floor is yours.” Rook curls his finger, motioning Declan to enter.

He strides toward where we are sitting. Instead of taking a seat, he moves in place to stand behind my boss.

The sight of two powerful men in expensive suits is common in Manhattan, but it’s still striking in the best way possible.

Declan rubs his jaw. “I’m interested in purchasing a company, and you’ll assist with that.”

“Me?” I glance at him before I shift my gaze to Rook. “Sir, I don’t understand.”

“Wells is looking to acquire a company owned by a brilliant young woman,” Declan explains as my boss glances over his shoulder at him. “We’d like someone to work with us who can connect with her. We feel you’re a good fit.”

Visions of working closely with Declan dance in my head while nights spent under him heat my skin.

“Helena Gaffin will be your support on this,” Rook tells me. “You’ll take the lead. I trust you to ensure our client gets the best deal possible on this acquisition.”

“He will,” I say assuredly. “I’m excited to get started.”

This is the opportunity I’ve been waiting for. The chance to take the lead with a client is a solid first step to proving myself to Mr. Thorsen and the other senior partners.

The men exchange a glance before my boss clears his throat. “One of us should tell her about the company, Declan.”

His eyes lock on mine. “The company is Llura. They offer several products. Our interest is in purchasing their condom division.”

My breath stops, and I stare at him. All I can think of is his cock wrapped in a condom.

“I’ll have Svea prepare a contract and a profile of the company, along with a detailed outline of their current operations,” Rook interjects. “I’ll bring Helena up to speed, too, so she’s ready to hit the ground running.”

Since neither man bothers to move, I do.

I push to my feet, hoping my knees don’t buckle.

I never imagined that my first chance to lead a case would involve my lover’s acquisition of a condom brand.

Although this has to be a conflict of interest, I keep my mouth shut about that and paste a smile on my lips as I prepare to leave the conference room. “Thank you for this opportunity, Mr. Thorsen.”

“You can thank Declan.” He jerks a thumb toward the man standing behind him. “He requested your assistance. You must have made a hell of a first impression on him.”

“She did.” Declan catches my eye. “She definitely did.”

CHAPTER NINETEEN

Abby

After my meeting with Rook and Declan, I took thirty minutes to decompress in my office. The idea of working with the man is intriguing, but the fact that we’ll be focused on acquiring a condom brand comes with all kinds of hidden and not-so-hidden innuendo.

I’m not foolish or naïve enough to believe that Declan is pursuing this deal because of what we did in bed.

If anything, I’m sure his vast experience fucking different women while using that particular brand of protection is the foundation for his interest in acquiring the condom division of Llura.

A person doesn’t have to be a marketing genius to recognize that condoms and underwear go hand-in-hand, or cock-in-sheath.

I exit the elevator in the lobby to find it empty except for the security guard and a doorman.

Desmond is on duty again, so I toss him a smile. “Hey!”
