“Get comfortable, princess. You’re not going anywhere,” Wiley told me as he stepped closer to me. “Guess your little bodyguards aren’t as good as you thought they were, huh?”

“Especially the mangled one in the driver’s seat,” Justin laughed.

My eyes shot wide open as I looked between them. Mangled. Rhett couldn’t be in that condition! I couldn’t bear to think of him that way.

“Shut up,” I gritted out as I narrowed my eyes. They weren’t going to slander the guys in front of me. We weren’t prepared for this scenario, but who could be prepared for everything? I just hoped they could come up with another plan to help me get out of this situation.

“What did you say?” Wiley snapped as he grabbed a fistful of my hair, wrenching my head back so that I was forced to look up at him.

I winced, tears pricking at my eyes. I wanted to scream and shout, but my throat tightened up from the pain.

Wiley glared down at me, maintaining his violent grip.

“I asked you a question,” he growled as he leaned close.

I swallowed hard, an ache echoing in my throat from the force. As pissed as I was, I needed to preserve myself for as long as possible, which meant not stepping on this guy’s toes.

“Nothing,” I said in a quiet voice.

Wiley clicked his tongue.

“Shame. I wanted you to fight me a little,” he replied before leaning even closer, our noses threatening to brush. “I like when they fight.”

My stomach churned uncomfortably as he let go of my hair and walked away from me. I watched them sit down at a wooden table they must’ve brought into the warehouse, lounging and talking while keeping me in their view.

It was going to be a long twenty-four hours.

Rhett wasn’t picking up his phone. He was attached to the damn thing, playing word jump or whatever the hell he liked to do on it. He knew better than to not answer his phone when we called, though.

“Something’s wrong,” I muttered as Andrew drove us away from the police station. There wasn’t much information we were able to get on the man, but there was one rumor that was quite interesting to us. He had ties with people who worked for Deviau. The police didn’t have enough evidence to book these people, but it was obvious that they were up to something in the drug trade.

Thankfully, Andrew still had a buddy or two in the force that helped us out with the unofficial information that was kept on the low. We didn’t get as much information as we wanted, but at least we confirmed a suspicion we had. Deviau was after Emery for some reason.

“Try him again,” Andrew said as he gripped the steering wheel tightly, his eyes sweeping the area as he drove through the city.

I listened to the phone ring over and over again, my chest starting to tighten to an uncomfortable amount. The thought of something terrible happening to Rhett and Emery made taking in a breath difficult. Why wasn’t he answering the damn phone?

“I’m calling Akio. Maybe they’ve already met up with him,” I muttered before tapping on Akio’s contact.

“Hey, have you guys left the station yet? I found a loft we can stay at with good security measures,” Akio answered.

“We just left. Are Emery and Rhett there with you?” I asked him.

Akio remained silent for a second.

“No… why? Have you heard from them?” Akio replied, worry already seeping into his tone.

“No, I’ve tried calling Rhett a million times, and he won’t answer his phone. You know he’s always on his phone,” I told him.

“The only thing I can think to do is drive around and see if we can find them,” Andrew said, raising his voice so that Akio could hear him. “Can you start driving around and looking, Akio?”

“I’ll report back,” Akio replied before the call went dead.

I turned to Andrew.

“We need to find the road that they would’ve taken to go into the city,” I said, figuring that’s a good place to start.

Andrew nodded and sped that way, our black sedan racing through the city. We backtracked our route into the city, the buildings starting to give away into trees and bushes.

“There!” I said, seeing tire marks on the side of the road and Rhett’s car crashed into a tree.

Andrew quickly pulled over and hopped out, racing across the road to the car, which had its hood crushed in around the trunk. He ran over to the driver’s side and pulled on the handle, but the door was jammed.

“Damn it,” he growled.

I joined his side and peered into the window, seeing Rhett slumped over away from the window.

“Back up,” I told Andrew, pulling him back before slamming my elbow against the window to shatter the glass. I leaned in and unhooked Rhett’s seatbelt, freeing his body so that Andrew and I could pull him out of the car. We gently rested him down on the grass.
