It’s a good transition to get me out of my head. My mom knows me too well. “He’s still sleeping, but no official plans.”

“I could come over and spend some time with my grandbaby. That might give you and Noah a chance to talk privately and sort out some details before going into the week ahead.”

Have I mentioned she’s the best? She is. Who needs a dad when you have a Trudy? “Thank you. Let me talk to him when he gets up, and I’ll let you know.”

“He stayed over? Oh my, dear daughter.” She sighs, but I can almost hear her joy. “You both are moving fast.”

“Having a kid together pretty much sealed that fate.”

She laughs. “I guess it did. Well, my little Maxie is just the sweetest boy. I can come over, or you can drop him off at mine. Just let me know in a little while.”

“I will, and thank you.”

“Good morning.” Deep and sultry. Noah’s voice carries across the room and caresses me just before his arms do. Kissing the side of my head, he applies a gentle pressure to give him better access. So I do because when I close my eyes, this is what I imagine heaven to feel like.

“Gotta run,” I say, getting sucked into his world. Happily.

“By—”

I leave the phone on the sill and turn to face him, wrapping my arms loosely around his neck and staring into the hazel of his eyes. The gold is brighter in the diffused morning light. A lazy grin slides into place as his hands hold my waist and then slide lower to my ass. He gives a good squeeze and asks, “Why are you up so early?”

“Couldn’t sleep.”

Staring into my eyes, he then kisses me, long and lingering. When our lips part, our heads rest against each other’s. I close my eyes and take a deep breath, inhaling him. He could get a girl drunk off his heady scent, an addicting mixture of masculinity, the beach, and a heavy dose of sexy.

And the way he holds me with intention. The palms of his hands grasping me like I’ll slip away if he doesn’t, the strength of his arms around me, making me feel safe, so safe.

I caress his cheek, the tips of my fingers scratched as I run them over his unshaven face—the pricks of scruff, the smoothness of his skin, the edge that drops off his jaw, and the fullness of his lips.

My breathing picks up from the proximity, my body awakening. I kiss him, rubbing myself shamelessly against him. I don’t want any misunderstanding of what my intentions are. I’m weak to this man and need him to know exactly how I feel. It’s not just physical. It’s a chemical reaction I have to this man. It’s an emotional connection that has me acting outside of myself.

I hold him even tighter. “You make me feel so much, Noah. So much of everything.”

Nuzzling behind my ear, he whispers, “You say that as if you’ve given up.” The warmth of his breath sends goose bumps across my skin.

“Not given up. Giving in. I realize I don’t want to fight whatever this is between us.” I don’t tell him that my emotions have been blossoming because it’s easier to hide behind the physical attraction instead.

Leaning back to look me in the eyes, he studies my eyes as if he might catch a lie hiding inside. “We definitely shouldn’t be fighting. How lucky are we that we get to be together how we like and see fit? We can toss out the past and leave the future to worry about another day. We can live in the here and now and enjoy the present.”

He chuckles. “What time does Maxwell wake up?”

I glance at the clock on the stove. “Thirty minutes tops.”

“Challenge accepted.”

“There’s no challenge. Wait, that came out wrong . . .” And then I realize it didn’t. I'm good with it if I’m called easy for wanting this man. Seeing him bare-chested and with only underwear on has me ready to tackle him with my tongue and other body parts.

“You sure about that?” He cocks an eyebrow and lands a smirk that causes my insides to twist in tingles. He kisses my neck while walking me backward toward the window. “Please sit.” There’s no room for argument, and it was not a question.

I sit because I’m not opposed to taking commands when he’s looking at me like I’m about to be his breakfast. With a finger under my chin, he lifts until our eyes lock on each other’s, and whispers, “Can you be a good girl and keep quiet?”

“I can try,” I reply with a smirk.

He kisses me, but the pressure is different. It’s heavy and loaded with intent. “If you stay quiet for me, I’ll make you come so hard you won’t be able to walk without remembering how my mouth fucked so good.” He tilts his head, staring me in the eyes. “How does that sound?”
