Even the fastest shifter is no match for a sports car and eventually they disappear in the rearview mirror.

I can finally turn my attention to my mate.

She’s plastered against the door, looking terrified of me. Her big round glasses are crooked on her face.

“Let me go!” she screeches as I turn onto the highway and speed up. She reaches for the door handle and I nearly swerve off the road as I lunge to the side and grab her arm.

“Don’t!” I shout in a panic, my protective instincts already on overdrive. “We’re going too fast.”

She kicks and swats my arm as she struggles to get away.

“Do you know who my grandfather is?!” she screeches in panic. “You’re so dead! My grandfather is Martin Shields! The head of the AFA!”

My heart sinks.

“Martin Shields is your grandfather?”

“Oh yeah! And he’s going to be pissed that you kidnapped his favorite granddaughter, so I suggest you let me go!”

I just kidnapped one of the most powerful men in the world’s granddaughter.

Feral or not…

I’m so dead.

Chapter Four

Mindy

Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god.

What the hell do I do?

This maniac is speeding down the road, flying between cars at a velocity that should have us wrapped around a pole, but instead, he’s maneuvering the car like a hall-of-fame race car driver.

“What do you want with me?” I ask with a whimper as I slide into the seat and click my safety belt on.

He’s focused on the road, those dark brown eyes darting up to the rearview mirror every two seconds. He nibbles his bottom lip as he squeezes the steering wheel with those big hands.

What does he want with me?

My mind starts going to some dark places. Places that have those strong hands running all over my body—sliding up my shirt, along my inner thighs, over my ass. Why am I moaning in the image? Why am I breathing heavily, pulling his clothes off, wanting more?

I squeeze my eyes shut and suck in a breath as he maneuvers the car around two others.

Not helpful, Mindy. Not helpful at all!

He looks in the rearview mirror again and curses under his breath.

I turn back and see a black car flying through the traffic, expertly maneuvering along the road like we are.

“I told you my grandfather is not going to let this go,” I say as my heart starts racing. “I told you he’s going to come after me!”

But even as I’m watching the car approach, I’m not rooting for it. I want it to fade into the background. I will it to fishtail off the road. I don’t want anyone to take me away from this man.

My captor speeds up and suddenly jerks the wheel to the right. I get thrown into his muscular arm as the car fishtails on the pavement with the tires squealing.

We fly down a bumpy dirt road with tall pine trees running along both sides.

“Geez!” I screech. “You’re a maniac!”

He doesn’t react. He’s too focused on the road. He glances in the rearview mirror and I can tell by the way his jaw tightens that the car is following us again.

“You’re going to get us killed,” I say as we bounce up and down on the unpaved road.

He turns and looks at me with a fierce look. “I would never do a thing to hurt you. Ever.”

The way he looks at me… God, it sends goosebumps shivering down my skin.

My heart is hammering in my chest. My pulse is racing. If I was standing, I’d be weak in the knees.

I close my eyes and shake out these unhelpful feelings. When I reopen them, some of the indignation has come back.

“How can you say that? You kidnapped me!”

He looks at me and holds his breath. “I… I’m sorry.”

“You’re sorry?! Then let me go!”

He shakes his head as he turns back to the road. “Not going to happen.”

I glance at the door handle and wince. If I jumped out, I’d probably roll right into one of these tree trunks and break my back. I’m stuck with this maniac as long as he keeps driving like this.

“This fucking guy,” he mutters as he makes another abrupt turn down a road with a steep slope. “I can’t shake him.”

I grab onto the dashboard as my stomach drops like I’m heading over the crest of a terrifying rollercoaster. We race down the hill at a reckless speed.

“Please stop,” I say as nausea creeps up my throat. “You’re going to fly off the road!”

He looks at me quickly and whispers something under his breath that I can’t hear. Something about wanting to stop scaring me.

“Fine,” he says as the road finally levels out. He takes another sharp corner and slams on the brakes, skidding to a stop on the side of the secluded dirt road.

My heart feels like it’s pounding in my head as I continue gripping the dashboard with white knuckles even though the car has stopped.
