“Thanks,” I whispered.

John flipped the channel to one of my favorite shows, and we all settled into a companionable silence as I watched TV and slowly ate my pho.

And just like I’d thought, after a few bites, I began feeling sick.

“Fuck,” I muttered. I quickly placed my bowl on the table and rushed off to the bathroom. Jonah was by my side immediately, holding my hair back out of my face as I emptied everything I’d just managed to eat.

He didn’t say anything as I stood from the floor and rinsed my mouth out. He just grabbed my hand in his as I got ready to walk out of the bathroom. Frowning, I turned to look at him. He tugged me into his arms and held me, resting his chin on the top of my head.

“I’m sorry you’re going through this,” he whispered.

My throat closed up with tears. I bit down harshly on my tongue to keep myself from crying. Crying was a fucking weakness, and I was not weak.

I quickly moved back, not knowing how to accept the tenderness he was offering me. After I scampered back into the living room, I quickly took a seat beside Blaze again, tucking my legs beneath me.

“How often are you getting sick, Montana?” Blaze asked.

I just shrugged, not answering. John sighed. “She’s getting sick too goddamn much. Her clothes are hanging loose on her. She can’t hold a goddamn thing down, and the fucking doctor won’t help her.”

I glared at him, but my brother just evenly met my gaze. I knew he wouldn’t back down on this. He’d been searching for a new doctor, but this was the only one within a reasonable distance that accepted John’s insurance.

“She’s getting a change in doctor as soon as my PA finds someone,” Blaze announced.

I jerked my head to the side to glare at him. “What?” I snapped at him.

“Hey,” Jonah called, dragging my eyes to him, “this is for the best, Montana. You’re going to fucking kill yourself if you keep going on like this.”

“I’m fine,” I snarled.

I squeaked in shock when Blaze suddenly gripped my chin in his tight grip, yanking my head around so I was forced to look at him. He narrowed his eyes down at me and only tightened his grip when I tried to yank my chin out of his hold. “I don’t believe I said it was up for discussion, sweetheart,” he told me. “I said you will be getting a change in doctor.”

“And who’s footing the fucking bill?” I sneered at him.

“Me,” he said bluntly. My eyes widened in shock. “Jonah and I already discussed this. I’m sure your brother won’t have an issue with it.”

“Sure fucking won’t,” John quickly added.

Tears burned in my eyes, but I held them back with every ounce of willpower I had. “I hate you,” I seethed, my chest heaving. “I fucking hate you.”

Blaze shrugged. “Fine line between love and hate, sweetheart.” He relaxed his grip some and tenderly brushed his thumb over part of my sore jaw. “Now, be a good girl and become compliant for this. But if you want to fight about it, Montana, I’m all game.”

With that, he released me. I lurched from the couch, grabbed my bowl of pho, and launched it at him. “Montana!” John roared.

I spun around and rushed off for my bedroom like a child, slamming the door behind me. But Blaze was hot on my heels, and he just shoved the door back open before he wrapped his hand around my throat, shoving me against the wall. “Hey!” Jonah barked. He appeared at Blaze’s side. “Fucking let her go, Blaze.”

He completely ignored Jonah, our eyes angrily locked on one another’s. “You want to fight, Montana?” Blaze asked me, his voice chillingly soft.

“I want you to go to hell,” I spat.

“I’ve been there, sweetheart. I’m going to ask again. You want to fight about this?”

My ears began ringing. There was too much going on. “Out,” I rasped. Tears blurred my vision and spilled down my cheeks. “Let me go! I need out!”

Blaze suddenly released me, but then he wrapped his burly arms around me, sinking to the floor with me when my legs gave out. I sobbed, clutching at his shirt. “I don’t want your help,” I cried. “I want this to go away.”

“It’s not going away, sweetheart,” Blaze said softly. “Just let it out.”

So, ignoring everyone else in the room, I did. And I allowed Blaze to fucking comfort me as I sobbed into his arms all because I was too fucked up to know what to do when someone gave a damn about me.

Montana

“Sis, you going to be okay while I go to work?” John asked, poking his head around the doorjamb of my room. I was still sprawled out in bed, just wanting to be left alone. I knew if I had gotten up this morning, he would have tried to get me to eat, but I couldn’t stomach anything. And this time, it wasn’t because of morning sickness. My stomach was actually settled for once.
