“It’s fine anyway Sian, I need to talk to you guys about something, and I don’t need anyone listening in.” That was Valerie’s answer when I started to bitch and moan.

“What’s up? Is it about the shopping trip? because you heard that nut earlier…”

“No-no-no, this isn’t about that, this is about what the hell those guys are up to.”

“What, what are they up to?” I love how clueless Tammy is when it comes to this sort of stuff. Belle and I are usually the ones filling her in.

“Mandy.” That’s all Belle needed to say for the lights to come on.

“I almost forgot about her, I’m still trying to figure out what Shane did when he went back to his house this morning.” It’s true, she’s been pondering that all throughout our morning classes, even going so far as to pass around notes to the rest of us, asking if we’d heard anything. Which of course we hadn’t, because they’re all a bunch of secretive nut jobs.

“Listen, we don’t have a lot of time and shit seems to be moving really fast so we gotta move like yesterday.”

“Move on what? What did you hear? Don’t tell me Track actually told you something.” Oh, Jace is so dead if she knows stuff that I can't.

“Track didn’t tell me shit, don’t you know these guys by now? Girl you’ve got to become a detective dealing with this bunch.”

“Okay, so what did you learn?” Belle was still glowing from the engagement talk even though she didn’t yet have her ring.

“Okay so here goes. We know some shit went down with Mandy but we’re not sure what. I’ve been putting shit together since the weekend and here’s what I got. Track lost his shit when he found out we were going to Mandy’s place.”

“He didn’t right away, not the first time I told him that that’s where we were headed when the explosion happened, but after I got through arguing that we would’ve been hurt had we not left the house he acted like I kicked his grandma.”

"Now I know Track can't stand that girl, but this was way over the top. Then she got in our faces at the restaurant that night and I don't know how Jace talked him down off that ledge but he must be really good."

“You see, I don’t know too much about your guys, Track talks about them of course, but until lately he never let me near other dudes, he’s bent like that. But I’m the observant type, comes from years of walking these halls and putting up with people’s shit.”

“And what have you come up with?” The three of us were hanging onto her every word. The only one missing was Cassie and that girl had enough Mandy to put her in a coma so that was a good thing.

“We don’t have a lot of time so I’m gonna make this short. There’s definitely something up with them and Mandy, something serious. Serious enough that I think they might be planning to make a move on her.”

“What do you mean make a move?” She gave me on of those California looks that I still don’t get.”

“Let’s just say it may not be legal. The thing is, the cops are watching Jace, if they’re watching him then they’re probably watching his boys too. So it’s going to be up to us.”

“What do you mean?”

“If we’re gonna take out this coke sniffing bitch we’re gonna have to be the ones to do it.”

"Uh, Valerie, what do you mean by take out?" I did not like the look she gave me.

"Oh, my heavenly stars what is wrong with you people? Is there something in the water in California? What makes you think they’re planning to do anything?”

“Come on Sian, even I know they’re up to something.”

“What Belle? And you didn’t tell me? What are they up to?” Were they picking up something about the trip Jace and I were taking with Track? Can’t be.

I haven’t mentioned anything about the trip to D.C tomorrow because Jace had threatened me if I did, and though I never listen to his empty threats, I understood the seriousness of what we were about to do. But I was not understanding the Mandy thing.

I know she’s trouble, know she possibly could’ve had something to do with me being stabbed, but I thought he’d kicked her out of school because of what happened at the restaurant. The way Valerie’s talking though, it seems there’s something more going on.

Sian

* * *

“Are you guys gonna tell me what’s going on? Cause I’m completely lost.” Belle and Valerie looked at each other. Okay, so it's just me, and Tammy who's out of the loop.

“Sian, if Jace hasn’t told you, there’s no way I am, nope.”

“Come on Belle, you’re supposed to be my friend.”
