Doom broke into laughter. “What’s the longest you’ve ever been mad at someone? Five minutes?”

Her shoulders slumped. “Ten minutes. I’ve never been able hold in anger for long, but with you, it’s getting easier.”

“I’ve been told that before.” He poured the soup into the bowl, then went to the cabinet and took out another bowl. “Come on; have some with me.”

“No way. You’re welcome to all of it.”

Doom timidly dunked the spoon into the soup. Taking a cautious taste, he looked at her amused expression before he started taking larger spoonsful.

“You had me worried. You can barely taste the garlic.” Arden propped her chin on her hand as she leaned into the counter. “The soup is like Mama,” Arden warned, not saying anything else.

When he seemed confused, Arden laughed again. He would figure it out for himself. Mama came across as attractive and normal, but the more you got to know her, the more you realized how lethal she could be.

When Doom refilled his bowl, she couldn’t help but to give him another warning. “I would go easy—”

“My stomach is made of iron.” Doom wiggled his eyebrows at her. “Some of the meals I had to eat when I was in the service would turn your stomach. Mama deserves a culinary award for this soup.”

Her lips trembled with laughter. “I didn’t say it wasn’t delicious.” Should she warn him again?

Nah—he should find out on his own.

Pouring them a glass of wine, she watched him finish the soup and rolls, preventing herself from rolling her eyes at him when he patted his stomach like a well-fed tiger. The burgeoning idea that had come to her mind when he had bragged about his iron stomach fell to the wayside when his gaze turned seductive. The dangerous tiger had been fed, and now he wanted to play.

“I want to fuck.”

Arden raised an inquiring brow at him. “Are you sure you’re going to be able to after eating that much food?”

Taking her wine glass from her, Doom lifted her into his arms. “Let’s fuck around and find out.”

CHAPTER 48

THE GARLIC

Arden slid a mug of beer across the counter toward Jesus. Then, as she took a breather while no one was yelling for a drink, she surveyed the bar. The place was always packed on a Friday night, but this weekend, so many were still trying to get inside that Wizard had to go outside to tell them to leave.

Kat took the same opportunity to rest, grabbed a bottled water, and ran it over her forehead. “It’s hot as blazes in here,” she complained.

“I should have worn a tank top, like you.” Arden grabbed another bottle of water to rub it against the back of her neck while watching Wizard coming back inside with a couple of women.

“I thought Wizard wasn’t letting any more people in?”

Kat looked to where she was staring then gave her a rueful glance. “Their breast size guaranteed their admission.” She gave her a curious lift of her eyebrows. “Does it bother you when the newbies hit on Doom?”

Arden shook her head. “Not when they have boobs that size. I think Doom is scared of big-breasted women.”

Kat looked at her like she was crazy.

“Watch.” Arden nodded her head at the women.

Both of them watched as the new arrivals maneuvered themselves in Doom’s direction. Kat had told her, with Doom being Sergeant-of-Arms, anyone who wanted to join The Last Riders had to get past him first.

The two arrivals slid up to Doom, wrapping their arms around his waist, their breasts nudging the sides of his chest. Arden had to stifle her laughter when Doom pushed himself from between them.

“I think he’s afraid of being smothered.”

Kat turned her head to the side so none of the brothers sitting at the bar could hear her. “You should tell Doom he needs to take a shower.”

“He showers a couple times a day.”

Kat made another disgusted grimace. “Then what’s that odor? There’s no way that’s cologne.”

Arden lowered her voice so it was whisper thin, “You promise you won’t tell?”

Kat raised two fingers in the air. “Girl, I got you. Tell me.”

“Doom has been eating dinner with me every night, and on the weekends, we eat most meals together.”

“So?” Kat stared at her blankly.

“Since I moved home, we ended up at his apartment after working at the restaurant. He’s been eating a lot of food lately.”

“So…?”

“Garlic,” Arden supplied the answer.

Kat’s mouth dropped open. “Then why don’t you smell like…?”

“Because I don’t eat it two days in a row. I tell Doom I’ve worked at Mama’s long enough I need breaks, and I go through a drive-thru before I go to Doom’s. He’s been eating all the leftovers himself, and Mama loves her garlic.” Arden put a hand over her mouth. “I might even have told Mama how much I love extra garlic on the garlic knots.”
