She could play a naïve innocent until then. All she had to do was dodge and prevaricate when anything turned sexual. It wouldn’t be hard. Where men were concerned, she had always been out of sight, out of mind. The key to her success would be to remain out of their sights and limit their interactions. How hard could it be?

CHAPTER 7

THE DOCTOR

Doom watched the door close after the exasperating woman calmly left as if it was settled for her to become a Last Rider.

“Since when is Doom Sergeant at Arms?” Puck asked belligerently from the table.

Wizard stared him down. “Since you fucking knew Jesus was lying about Blue’s age. You’re no longer over new members—you’ve lost my trust.”

“No church meeting? Nothing?”

Wizard raised an intimidating brow at Puck, which he shared with a mute Jesus. “Would you rather I call a formal church meeting and involve Viper? What punishment do you think he would give? Viper leaves the decision on who I want to fill the ranks, but concerning hardcore infractions, we all follow the same fucking rules.” Wizard’s cold voice gradually rose in volume. “You fuckers broke one of the main hard and fast rules of the club, which automatically has you losing membership. Not only did you knowingly and willing abet a minor in coming to the club, you fucking lied to me and everyone in here that Blue was eighteen. You should be fucking thanking me that you are just losing your title rather than handing your bike keys over.”

Puck lowered his gaze to the table.

Jesus and Buck waited mutely for Wizard’s punishment as he strode from behind the counter to place his hands down on the table in front of them.

“Jesus.” Wizard raised one of his hands. “Bike keys.”

Jesus paled as he numbly reached inside his pocket. Handing Wizard his bike keys, he then stood up and started taking off his jacket.

“Sit your ass back down. You’re still in the club, but you’re going back to probate. I’ll return the keys when my trust is earned back. Let me down again, and your ass is fucking gone!” Wizard snarled at him.

Jesus sat back down, nodding his head.

Doom went behind the bar to pour himself a bourbon. So far, the brothers had gotten off better than he’d expected. Wizard, unlike Moon, who used to be the president of The Last Riders’ Ohio Chapter, ran a tight ship. Wizard was a hard-ass where the club rules were concerned.

“Buck, I expected more from you. You usually keep these knuckleheads in check.”

Buck shrugged. “I never could stand a kid getting picked on. I didn’t want to see him on the streets.” A kid living on the street had always been Buck’s weak point.

Wizard just shook his head at them. “You three have more heart than is good for you. How many times have I told you that we do what we can, but never do anything that could jeopardize the club?”

Wizard gave a heavy sigh. “You can keep your bike, only because Jesus has to have someone cart his ass around. As punishment, you and Puck can be the ones to teach Blue how to keep from getting his ass handed to him. Each day of school that Blue misses is a Friday night party you fuckers will miss by standing guard duty. So, it would benefit you two to make sure his ass is where it’s supposed to be.”

Doom took a drink to hide his smile. The three brothers were thick as thieves. It wasn’t the first time the three men had gotten into trouble, and despite Wizard’s punishments, Doom was certain it wouldn’t be the last.

Moon had been the one to give Jesus and Puck their rank in the club when he was president here. Wizard hadn’t changed the ranks Moon assigned, hoping Moon would return once the trouble he was embroiled in Ohio was solved. Unfortunately, Moon had made a powerful enemy, whose anger seemed to be getting worse the longer Moon stayed out of his grasp.

Taking pity on the brothers, Doom sought to distract Wizard. “You do know she was yanking our chain, right?”

“You think?” Wizard turned to him and rolled his eyes.

“I don’t think so—”

Jesus snapped his mouth shut when he drew Wizard’s attention.

“Don’t think,” Wizard said scornfully. “Just don’t. Take it from me, she was bluffing.”

Doom refilled his glass. “What we going to do about it?”

“What I’m going to do is go talk to the little fucker in my office before I decide.”

After gulping his drink down in one swallow, Doom followed Wizard to the office.

Blue turned frightened eyes to Wizard when the men entered the room.

Doom almost felt sorry for the teenager. Wizard could scare the shit of men much older and more experienced than him.

“Stand up when I fucking enter the room,” Wizard snarled, moving to stand in front of him. “You finish the assignments you missed?”
