Maybe it could make him a diamond.

So he tilted his head for deeper suction and closed his eyes to focus on his goal. Inside he could sense the repairs he’d tried to make on his armor crumbling against the onslaught of Connelly’s presence. He couldn’t let it stop him, no matter how shattered he became.

He found Connelly’s pucker and circled it gently—experimentally—with his fingertip, wondering if he’d be granted the access he wanted. Connelly never said he didn’t bottom, but he carried himself like a total top. Especially when they were in bed and his bossy cop nature came out to play. As much as Azariah would love a chance to feel Connelly’s channel strangling his dick, he wouldn’t push it. What their bodies could do together was far too precious.

Connelly quaked at the touch and his thrusts grew uneven. “Oh, fuck. Fuck!”

Satisfaction surged through Z and he applied more pressure, more friction, tightened his lips and started humming. The sound would send vibrations up Connelly’s cock and right to his fluttering asshole.

“Yes, do it. Give me your finger.”

Connelly’s words were all the permission Z needed and they flooded him with euphoria. He reached up and let Connelly suck on his fingers, getting them nice and wet until they were dripping. His heart beat desperately, but he ignored it and breached Connelly’s tight passage.

“God.” Connelly let out a breath as he paused to allow the invasion. But not a minute later he was fucking his ass back on Z’s fingers with a continued keening moan that lit Z up like a million spotlights.

It was perfect, each thrust forward and back gave Z a chance to shower pleasure on him. He worked a second finger into his channel just as Connelly reached around and shoved one of his own spit-lubed fingers in beside it.

Z pulled back so he could speak. “You want to help me finger your hole? That’s fucking hot.”

“Just don’t stop.” Connelly grabbed his head again and soon they were back at it. Their mingled grunts and groans filled the entire apartment. If the sounds they made were bullets they’d have shot the room apart.

“Gonna come,” Connelly said, so low and gruff it would have put the club speakers to shame right then.

Z pressed his fingers deeper, hooking around Connelly’s and twisting just right until Connelly shouted and pumped his salty seed onto Z’s tongue.

Yes.

Perfection. Connelly pulled out of his mouth weakly and flopped onto the bed with a loud exhale.

All Z could do was smile because his heart was so full it felt like it might burst. The imperfection in his defenses had cracked wide enough to allow those stupid dreams to float out.

And they were good dreams too.

Ones he wanted to keep.

“Say something,” Azariah said, his onyx eyes softer than they’d ever been.

Connelly’s heart swelled and he reached out a finger to trace Azariah’s jaw again. The scruff tickled. Clearly Azariah hadn’t shaved in a few days, maybe not since he’d hurt his ankle. It was odd seeing the delicate face he’d memorized with rough patches of hair. He didn’t hate it, but he missed the colorful eye shadow and the extended lashes.

“What do you want me to say?”

They were lying on the bed now, both of them exhausted but happy. At least, Connelly hoped so.

Azariah’s fingers curled around his hand just as he tipped his head toward the touch and closed his eyes. “Anything.”

“I don’t have it in me to be clever right now.” He cupped Azariah’s shoulder with his other hand, then caressed his arm, unable to stop touching now that he’d started.

“Sincere is good too.” A bottom lip was caught by his teeth and he still hadn’t opened his eyes.

Connelly inhaled until his chest expanded. It felt necessary, like he needed the extra room to accommodate his emotions, otherwise they’d come spilling out without his control. It took a few tries before he could form intelligible sounds.

“‘One day I will find the right words, and they will be simple.’” The Kerouac quote was one that had stuck with him the most since he’d started reading the battered library copy of The Dharma Bums he’d picked up once he’d realized what a big influence the writer had had on Azariah. It seemed appropriate for the moment, considering all the things he truly wanted to say were complicated and difficult to explain.

Azariah’s lashes fluttered open and his gaze pierced Connelly right in the heart. “You make me want things I know I don’t deserve.”

“You deserve the world, Azariah.”

He turned away so a lock of his hair fell over his face. “I’m not a good person. You don’t really know me.”

“I know you well enough.” Connelly turned Azariah’s gaze back to him with a finger on his chin then brought their lips together. He did his best to let his kiss show just how much he thought of the man in his bed, just how special he believed Azariah was. He knew it wasn’t adequate and never would be, but until he could find those perfect simple words it would have to do.
