That was the part I thought that Damon was struggling with.

Even the handful of times Addison had called me Daddy without realizing it hadn’t made the big, jock-looking guy blink, so his frowns were definitely about something else.

But time would tell if I was right, and for the moment, I was going to help my sunshine adapt to college again and help him get to know his roommate.

And help him get into his newest dress without taking us both down.

“No, you have to stay still until I get you zipped up.” Or we’d both end up on the floor and tangled in the damned thing. “One more minute, then you can twirl.”

“My shoes, Daddy.” His excited energy only got harder to bottle up as he looked back at the bed, trying to turn around when he was only half-zipped. “I need my tiara too.”

He was going to kill himself in those shoes and take out my eye with that tiara.

What had I been thinking?

“Oh, Daddy.” My princess smiled and twirled when he was finally fastened and free. “I’m so pretty.”

That was what I’d been thinking.

Whirling around the room and making the dress swing out wide, Addison giggled. “I’m going to be the most beautiful princess ever.”

That was something we could both agree on.

“You’re already the most beautiful princess ever, sunshine.” Leaning against the bed as he giggled and twirled, I could feel my smile just getting wider as he danced around. “You’d be the most beautiful princess no matter what you were wearing.”

Throwing his arms out, Addison laughed and spun. “Because being beautiful is about what’s inside and about having special people.”

Coming to a stop without crashing or vomiting, Addison squealed and bounced over to me, throwing himself into my arms. “And I have you as my very special person and I’m your sunshine. That makes me the bestest princess ever.”

“The prettiest princess.” Kissing his nose, I hugged him tight as I started dancing us around the room to a silent waltz I knew he could hear too. “The nicest princess.”

He hid his face against my shoulder as he giggled, soaking up the praise and the dancing. “You’re the sweetest, Daddy.”

“Because I have the smartest princess and the bravest.” Relaxing my hold and taking his hands, I moved him further from me so when we twirled his dress would billow out around him. “You were so brave when you asked me out. You’re the best princess ever.”

And the cutest when he blushed and giggled, eyes sparkling with love and excitement.

“You’re the best prince ever, Daddy.” Dancing around with me as he smiled, he looked at me like I hung the moon. “You were brave and didn’t let me hide when I wanted to ask you out. You were so smart when you learned how to be a Daddy and how to spank and play. You even learned to decorate for me.”

Yeah, that hadn’t been easy.

“I would’ve learned anything to make my princess happy.” Pulling him close, I wrapped my arms around him and started slow dancing with my princess. “I knew the first time I raced you for the door that you were special. I just never imaged how you would change my life.”

Curling into me as we moved together, he made a soft happy sound. “You changed my life too, Daddy. You make me brave and you make me feel like your sunshine…important and sparkly and so powerful it’s amazing.”

“Because you are.” Kissing his head as we slowly swayed, I couldn’t imagine having anyone else in my life. “You’re Daddy’s little sunshine and you make my world sparkle. I love you, sunshine.”

“I love you, Daddy.” Petting my chest as he danced with me, he made another happy sound that went right to my heart. “You’re the best prince Daddy ever and I’m the luckiest sunshine.”

If anyone was lucky it was me, but I wasn’t going to argue with the smartest, bravest princess little I’d ever met. I was just going to be grateful for every moment we had together and I knew I’d spend the rest of my life counting the blessings my princess had brought into what had been a very lonely life.

After an ocean of gray had taken over my life, I now had sparkles and the most beautiful princess ever…I had my sunshine.
