The whole relationship had been one big red flag from beginning to end.

Reaching out, Camden wrapped his hand around mine and gave me a comforting smile. “That’s hard even when everyone is trying to make it work, but it sounds like he was taking his anger out on you. Which isn’t fair for a lot of reasons.”

“Understatement of the year.” Doing my best to push aside the stress, I smiled at the cutie sitting in front of me. “But while I will admit that closet jokes might not be funny to me for a while, I am not expecting you to shout about your kinks and needs from the rooftops. Going to dinner with me in public will suffice.”

His grin peeked out as he nodded. “I can do that…and in this case, at least you can be confident in the knowledge that my family knows.”

I scoffed, rolling my eyes. “They know more than you wanted them to.”

Groaning, he huffed and looked like he wanted to face plant on the table again. “Yeah, but there’s nothing I can do about that, and as far as I know, she hasn’t said anything to the rest of the family.”

“I don’t think she has either if that makes you feel better. She made sure no one else was around when I spoke to her and she was damned serious about that confidentiality clause.” For a while, I’d thought he was some kind of serial killer, but nope, he was just a cute little with a severe lack of groceries.

“I’m glad.” Looking down at our hands, he looked up at me through his lashes. “But I’m also glad she meddled…even if your mother is the Wicked Witch of the West.”

“Me too.” Turning my hand over, I squeezed his. “We’re just never going to tell her that.”

Eyes sparkling, he nodded. “Deal.”

Fingers crossed, it seemed like my dating life had taken a turn for the sweet and interesting.

Chapter Four

Camden

“Condiments are not vegetables no matter what color they are.” The way Gray leaned back in his chair and raised one eyebrow said he knew exactly how to be a Daddy, no matter what he thought about his lack of practical experience.

“But it’s red and it’s made of tomatoes.” He couldn’t argue with the truth. “Mustard is made from seeds. That’s healthy too.”

He huffed, rolling his eyes and making me giggle. “This is worse logic than the relish is a salad one.”

“It’s chopped up veggies that you don’t put melted cheese on. It’s a salad.” He needed to look up more definitions. “It’s cold too.”

“I don’t even know what to say to you.” Gray’s drama was put on hold as his phone started beeping. I wasn’t sure what the sound was, but he grinned as he turned it back over and tapped on the screen. “And our hour is up. Our time is now ours.”

Oh.

He’d timed it.

That was so cute.

But now what?

Trying not to wiggle, I sat straighter. “You said we would come back to the rest of the plans once our hour was up. What would you like to do?”

No squirming.

Eye contact made.

Shoulders relaxed.

No worries.

“You look like one good boo and you’d jump out of that chair.” Gray’s very Daddy comment had me pouting.

“You’re not supposed to mention that.” His chuckle said he wasn’t going to agree with me. “I’m supposed to look relaxed on a date.”

He scoffed. “Who made that rule? If you want to be nervous and stressed, you can.”

He was so ridiculous.

“That’s not how it works.” Rolling my eyes, I flopped back in my chair. “I stress and do my best to look normal. You pretend I’m normal, and then eventually I actually get to be normal.”

Now he was rolling his eyes again. “Normal is entirely overrated and did you realize you said that three times in one thought? Nope, no normal here. I’m sitting with an artist and a little and a funny man. Normal would be very boring.”

He was so silly.

He’d said it three times too.

“Some people like being boring.” Some people thought being normal was really important too. “It’s okay if you don’t, though.”

Flashing me a teasing smirk, he inclined his head like a king giving me permission to approach the throne. “I am glad you approve.”

Giggling, I tried not to wiggle too much but it was hard. “I do, Your Highness.”

That made him laugh and made me all squirmy inside.

He thought I was funny.

Part of me wondered if he’d still think I was funny if I was little around him, but another part of me pointed out that was stupid because I was already kind of little around him, and the whole mental debate was so exhausting I bounced up from my chair. “I have to clean up the kitchen. That’s the rule. Right after I eat.”

Because otherwise I put it off and put it off and put it off…
