He did?

He grabbed it from the back. It was still in its packaging. And it was pink and fluffy.

She could only think of one reason he’d have a pink fluffy blanket in his truck. But that was crazy.

Right?

“Did you . . . did you get this for me?” she asked.

She still thought she should go back in to find Loki. Leaving him didn’t feel right. What if he needed her?

“You don’t wear enough clothes,” was all Remy said in reply. He took off the packaging and wrapped it around her.

“You don’t like my clothes?” she asked in a small voice. It might not seem like a big thing, but to Isa it was. She had a very certain style that she liked.

Big or Little.

And if he didn’t approve . . .

He grasped hold of her chin, turning her face to him. The interior truck light highlighted his face. She wished she was brave enough to kiss him. To lean up into his touch and press her lips to his.

Then, suddenly, he was leaning down. And his mouth took hers.

It wasn’t a gentle kiss.

It wasn’t cajoling or sweet.

It was pure, hot possession. It was obsession. Her toes curled and a whimper of need escaped her mouth as he pushed her into the seat and devoured her.

She wanted to reach up, to touch him, but she was tangled up in the blanket.

Besides, this felt like a declaration.

Something Remy had to say.

You’re mine.

When he drew back, he was panting slightly, his gaze intense.

“I love your clothes. They’re a reflection of you. Cute and fun and sweet. You can wear whatever the fuck you want. Unless I’m in charge of choosing for you.”

Um. Yikes.

She wasn’t so sure about that.

“But I’ll only choose what you like. Don’t need you to change, Isa. Just need you to be healthy and safe. And fucking warm. Got me?”

Another shiver ran through her.

She had to face the fact that his grumbly tone just did it for her.

“Got it,” she replied.

Leaning in, he gave her another hard, but sadly, short kiss. When he drew back and did up her belt, her lips were tingling. Her mind racing.

Then she remembered why Remy was driving her home and not Loki.

And it started up again.

The glitter guilt in her tummy.

“Maybe we should wait here for him.”

Remy reached out and grabbed her hands through the blanket and she realized that she was wringing them together again.

“I could never play poker, huh?” she tried to joke.

“I wouldn’t recommend it. Everything is going to be fine, baby girl.”

“How do you know?” she asked.

“Because I’ll make it so.”

She made a scoffing noise even though his confidence actually made her feel better.

“And I think we should go home and wait for him. Going in there . . . it could make everything worse.”

He didn’t start the truck, though.

She got the idea that he wasn’t keen on leaving Loki either.

“I’ll go back in,” he finally said with a frown. “I’ll get him.”

Isa got out her phone to see if she had any messages. She sighed in relief as she saw a text from Kiesha.

“Kiesha texted me. She said that Ed has got things under control and Loki is fine.” Isa bit her lip. “He won’t like you going in there. You were right. We should go home.”

But damn . . . it made her feel even worse to leave him.

They drove away in silence. She grew tense as they passed the site of the accident.

“Loki told me you haven’t driven yet,” he said quietly.

Shit. Did he?

“I just . . . I got nervous at the idea of driving.” Shit, she really needed to start telling the full truth. “Actually, it was more than nerves. I had a panic attack.”

“Baby.” It was all he said, but that one word conveyed a lot.

Sadness.

Worry.

Concern.

“I know, silly, huh?”

“Nothing you feel is silly. Told you that. Your feelings are valid.”

There went that grumbly tone again. She wondered if he had any idea of what it did to her?

Remy thought about bringing up the fact that she might need to speak to someone about her fears . . . but he decided to leave it.

His poor baby had already been through a lot tonight.

Besides, she might just need more time.

No matter what she said, he knew he’d had a part to play in tonight’s events. He should have checked that she’d told Loki everything. Then pressed her on why she didn’t want to tell him.

It was a reminder that he still didn’t know the two of them all that well.

He drove into the driveway of her house and turned off his truck before climbing out. Walking around, satisfaction filled him when he opened the door and found she hadn’t moved.

“Good girl,” he murmured, making her shuffle around on her seat.

He could tell that she liked being praised. That she liked to please people.
