He pummeled me until I didn’t walk right for more than a week.

But, this whole new Daddy, little girl is still niggling at me. I was a grown woman, sitting around in her house, putting a pacifier between her lips every hour and doubting if this was for me after all.

The longer Adam was gone, the more I doubted I could do this.

Okay, so the ‘Daddy’ thing was kind of hot, I get that. But, as hot as it was, it certainly didn’t feel…normal I guess. A knot of nausea grew in my belly, wondering how I could get Adam to back off a little bit.

At 4:35, the security alarm alerted me that someone had entered the driveway and was buzzing at the gate. Adam had all the computers in the house programmed to work with the system, so I paused the online test and pulled up the camera view of the security gate. A white delivery van idled at the roadside, with a guy leaning out the window waiting for someone to let him in.

“Can I help you?”

“I got a delivery for an Angel Henderson.” My belly flipped, it was probably something extravagant from Adam to celebrate our morning.

“Sure, come on up.” I typed in my code and the iron security gate swung open.

A moment later I was signing for the large package as the scent of roses swirled in the air.

“Thanks.” I tipped the delivery guy and watched as the van descended the driveway and out the gate.

Then I opened the package to find a vase filled with at least five dozen red and white roses.

I knew it wasn’t from Adam. He never sent roses. He said it lacked originality. He sent gifts, but they were always personal, something I had wanted, something that stood for somewhere we had been, or wishes I had told him about.

My palms began to sweat as I pulled the card from the white envelope.

Angel,

I’m so very sorry. I shouldn’t have pushed you yesterday. But, we need to talk. There is so much unfinished business with us. I know Adam isn’t home, I saw him leave. I know that’s creepy, but I needed to know you would get this when you were alone.

Meet me at Sebastian’s at 6 o’clock. If you don’t, I’m calling the cops and filing a breaking and entering and assault complaint against Adam and he’ll be arrested tonight. I know tomorrow is a big day for him, supposed to sign all his legal documents for the big IPO. Sure would be a shame if he missed it.

See you at 6.

Ron

My ears buzzed and my temples throbbed. I should call Adam. No, he would go over there and kill Ron. That would definitely get him arrested.

What’s the worst that could happen? I meet him, tell him whatever he needs to hear to get it through his head there’s nothing between us and I’m back here before seven.

I can handle this. I did it for us. For Adam.

At least, that’s what I told myself.

6

Sebastian’s is a lovely bistro about a half mile from the house. It was where Ron and our group of friends used to have drinks about once a month.

I steadied my breath, moved into the bedroom and picked out a conservative sweater and not-too-tight jeans, feeling a bit more like my old self.

First, I needed to deal with Ron. Second, I needed to break it to Adam that this baby girl stuff was a bit much as sort of a lifestyle deal.

I could handle it in the bedroom. Getting fucked by Daddy definitely lit up my lusty lady bits.

I dressed and rushed out the door. If I wasn’t there at 6, I wouldn’t be able to get back home by 7. I scrawled a quick note to Adam just in case, telling him I was out for coffee with Larissa.

I grabbed my purse and headed out the back hallway into the garage. My hands shook as I pulled down the driveway and the metal security gates opened out onto the long, wide street.

Ron was waiting when I arrived in the corner booth, with two glasses of white wine. His eyes flickered as I approached, but I was in no mood for chit-chat. I slid into the booth without acknowledging his open arms and got to the point.

“Listen, we can’t be friends. We need to cut off all communication. No texts, no calls, nothing. You asked me to come to talk to you so here I am, and I’ve talked.” I shifted on the vinyl seat, my ass still throbbing from Adam’s punishment.

“Come on, what do you see in that guy? I mean, he’s a caveman. That’s not you. You’re beautiful, edgy, smart, funny…we were great friends. We could build on that. I know you, he’s not good for you.”
