“Guys,” he said with a nod. “Thanks for coming.” Thumbing over his shoulder at his twin. “That’s Tavin.”

Introductions were fast and he and his brother sat. Linc still looked like the deadly SEAL he’d been. So did the others and he was glad they were still there.

“I know about this situation, Dav.”

“You sounded that way on the phone. How so?”

“I told them.”

That voice had him moving with the pure intent of killing. Linc and Rossi had to hold him off the COB.

“What the fuck did you do with her?”

Linc looked at Tavin. “A little help here?”

“Sorry, off the clock. Besides, I’m fine with this shit getting his ass handed to him. We’re talking about my sister-in-law. I’m all for any injury he gets.”

COB blanched a bit, good feat for a black man. “She’s your wife?”

“Yeah,” Davin said without blinking.

I just have to make it so when I get her back.

“I know how this looks but I’m not the one who took her, nor am I the one who was any danger to her.”

Davin struggled. “Bullshit. You showed her that goddamn file when not even the CO or XO knew about it. So either you’re working with someone or it’s you.”

“I know you have zero reason to trust me on this but I swear on my military oath, I’m not the one behind this. Yes, I showed her the file. I wanted her scared. I wanted her to find someone to walk with.”

The man sat and drained a beer before cracking his neck. Davin backed off and claimed a seat by his brother. “Talk before I lose what is left of my minimal patience.”

“I lied about the sailors that had been reprimanded.”

“Why?” Tavin asked.

“Because I believe it’s the CO.” He didn’t look away. “And I don’t know who else is in on it.”

Icy fear gripped his heart and squeezed. “That fucker is with everyone now, making plans on where to find her and how.”

“I had to get to someone outside of there to look at this. I know Risso, he’s my brother. So I called him.”

“Here’s the thing,” Linc picked up the conversation. “We’re not active duty any longer but we are still in the game. We put our feelers out as soon as Jack came to us with this. Her CO has some property that is out in the middle of fucking nowhere. It’s some distant relative and still in their name. But it’s close enough to here that he could drive there and back.”

Davin’s heart didn’t want to cooperate with him. All he could see was her needing him and him not there.

“Pull your shit together, Davin.” Linc pointed at him. “Find that icy cold asshole persona you had when you ran with us. She’s going to need it.

He nodded, grateful for the slap. The man was right. He did need his best game. For he was going to get her back, he was going to marry her.

“Where is it and how do we get there?”

“We’re flying in and landing about thirty miles out. We have vehicles there waiting. I’m not going to lie,” Linc said, gesturing to the others. Bicher set out a map. “There’s a shit ton of land and it can take a while to find her.”

If we do were the unspoken words.

“Let’s go.”

“What about your twin there. He coming?”

“Fuck yeah. You’re not keeping me out of this.”

Davin was grateful to have him at his side.

They went to their respective vehicles and as one left the lot. Davin was the last in line as he followed them to the airfield they were departing from.

“You okay?” Tav questioned.

“Nope. Won’t be until I know she’s safe and back where she belongs. In my arms.”

“You do know this may not end how you want it to.”

“Tavin. If I don’t believe this is going to end well, I’ll lose my shit and go put a bullet between that man’s eyes. I will risk anything and everything for this woman. My career, my commission, I don’t fucking care. It means shit to me if I can’t have her with me.”

“Okay,” he said. “I’ll be the rational one right now. You do what you have to.”

He parked by another truck. “I plan on it.”

They loaded in the chopper and he rubbed the back of his neck as it lifted off.

Hang in there, baby. I’m coming.

He tuned them out for the most part as they flew. Right up until he heard Linc state, “This is one edge of his land.” They continued flying.

Acres upon acres were streaking below them as they headed for their rendezvous spot. Goddamn needle in a haystack.

“There is a farmhouse so we’ll try there first.” Linc pointed to the left.

Davin couldn’t see the building because of the others in there but he took the man at his word. He trusted him. With his life and this time there was another life that was even more important to him.
