“You have to take care of our baby. Stay your pregnant ass where I put you.”

“Baby?” It was the last word the senator said before he slid to the floor.

“Who’s that? Gavin where are you?”

“I’m fine baby I gotta go take care of something. I’ll be there when you wake up in the morning.”

“Dafuq!” Kev rushed over to look down at him just as I hung up the phone.

“You stick him?” The senator was barely breathing now as he writhed around the floor in pain, but he wasn’t suffering nearly enough to suit me.

“Yep!”

“What now? I left his boy assed out outside.”

“Desert, you know where.” There’s a cave in the Arizona desert that locals claim is haunted while others claim it’s a vortex between worlds. I don’t know what the fuck I just know nothing returns once it enters.

There’s a well-hidden opening that can fit a body very well, but once you get in, only a few know how to get out. It’s a place we’d learned about years ago when we were part of an elite team in the service and never had any use for until now. “Bruh, I thought you said you were just going to record some shit that would have him sent away for life?”

“I lied.” I still can’t believe they fell for that shit.

I stepped over the asshole and then leaned down to have a word with him. “I cut you in just the right place. You’ll live for a few days yet, but you’ll hurt like hell. The place I’m sending you to will be your burial ground. My wife told me she felt like she was buried alive for the past four years while you and your sick fuck son tormented her. Now you’ll get to see what that’s like before you die.”

“What am I supposed to do with his lackey?”

“I have no beef with him. Have him taken back to the city and leave him on a sidewalk somewhere. Maybe you should call a few of the people he’s fucked over in the past, let them deal with him.” I gave the senator one last look as I headed for the door but he’d already fainted. Asshole.

I tried sneaking into my parent’s house two hours later but dad was there waiting for me. “Dad? What’re you doing up?”

“What did you do with him?” Well shit!

“Uh…”

“Never mind. Is the problem taken care of?”

“Yes sir.” I’m not fucking with this old man.

“Go on up and see your wife, she’s been pacing all night.” He turned and went back up the stairs to his room while I headed off to the other side of the house to the suite of rooms that were mine when I lived here, well, still is.

She was asleep with the phone clutched in her hand when I snuck into the room and over to the bed. I stood there looking down at her in the moonlight, feeling at peace knowing that her worries were finally over. Now all she has to think about is me and the little one she’s carrying.

I got undressed and slid into bed beside her, taking her into my arms as quietly as possible. “Gavin!”

“Sleep baby, I’m here.” I closed my eyes and blocked out the last few hours as I dropped off into sleep with my woman in my arms.

Kev and Dave never made it to the house until well after noon the next day. It was obvious from the looks of them that they hadn’t slept but the women didn’t seem to notice. Mom was in her element. It’s been a while since she had all her boys together under one roof and she went into mother mode.

I let them enjoy the lunch she prepared for them all the while avoiding looks from dad who’d been trying to corner me all day since I woke up and came downstairs. I figured he’d want to hear it all and thought it best to wait until the others returned so I didn’t have to go over that shit twice.

Giselle was no wiser to the night’s happenings since I’d outright lied to her this time and told her I’d been taking care of some backed up business that needed taking care of. And that the voice she heard through the phone last night had been a colleague.

“Ladies, if you’ll excuse us.” Dad got up from the table with a look that said he’d waited long enough and wasn’t about to wait a second longer. That was mom’s cue to drag my wife off to the other side of the house to show her what she claimed would be the perfect place for a nursery for when our son or daughter visits in the future.

This baby shit is a gold mine. For some reason just the mention of it can take the women’s minds off of everything else. Tunnel vision! I stashed way that info as I followed dad into his study. The scene reminded me of something from our past. The three of us being called to the carpet for some infraction or the other during our school days. At least this time he let us sit.
