Cash stepped further inside the room and picked up his cut where it had fallen off the entry table. With quick reflexes, he even executed the perfect move to grab Dev’s Galaxy pad as it fell from the vest.

“Doesn’t this mean motorcycle club?” Cash asked, lifting the cut. “We had a large one where I lived. They were always in the news.”

“Yeah.” The memory he tried desperately to recall never coalesced as Cash placed the pad on the entry table where it couldn’t fall again. Then he shook out Dev’s cut but didn’t inspect it. Only carefully draped it over the sofa.

His gaze followed Cash’s hands. He liked the care he used with something Dev had worked hard to achieve.

They stared at one another again. He liked the pretty boy being inside his apartment.

Cash didn’t say anything more about his club. He also didn’t run in fear or look at Dev any differently.

“Want me to show you where to dump the trash?”

“I figured it out today. It’s fairly full. Does waste management come to the curb in the back to pick it up? That’s where I put my cardboard boxes.”

Yep, a city boy if he used words like waste management. Dev grabbed the bag at his feet then another full one from the laundry room and started back through the apartment.

“Yeah, good call.” Dev filled the pretty boy in, so he didn’t venture out on foot alone again. “The area’s changin’. I wouldn’t be afraid to be out in the daylight. We live within walkin’ distance of a lot of shit, but most people around here drive. It’s just sus to be out alone after dark. If you wanted a safer place like that, you needed to go a couple miles east or west. How’d you wind up rentin’ from my place?”

“I’m a healthcare consultant. I signed a yearlong contract with Methodist Hospital. They’re paying for the stay.”

A professional who was high enough on the totem pole to have his living paid for. Huh. From Dev’s perspective, that had to mean the rent payments were secure. Seemed a bonus. Dev started down the stairs, luckily, Cash followed, putting on his jacket. “Do I shut the door?”

“Don’t lock it,” he said over his shoulder. “My sister works at Methodist. She’s in school but works in the ER. Shanna Fox.”

“I don’t know anyone yet,” he said, trotting down after him. “I’ll look out for her. Want me to take one of those?”

“Nah, I got ’em.” Dev took the turn on the bottom step and went down the hall.

“I went out the front doors today, taking the walkway around. I should’ve tried this way.”

Dev pushed through the back door to the driveway that split into four parking spaces. His Harley was parked on the back porch, covered, locked up tight. He’d parked his refurbished vintage Mach 1 in the spot directly in front of the door, also locked up tight. A convertible beamer, 8 Series, sat to the right of his Mach 1. The car next to the BMW was the vehicle he drove around the most, his ’67 Camaro. Good engine, beat to hell, but he loved that car.

“Nice car,” he said to Cash, giving a chin lift in the direction of the BMW.

“A gift to myself for the contract I landed.”

“You a doctor?” Dev asked as Cash lifted the lid to the trash bucket.

Pretty boy wasn’t lying. He’d taken up most of the oversized trash bin.

“No, I’m a consultant. On the administration side. You’re pretty tatted up. Did I say that correctly?”

A grin split Dev’s face at the reference. Since the ink covered a large part of his neck, chest, arms, back, and legs…yeah, he had some tattoos. “Close enough. You don’t have any?”

“No. Can’t commit,” Cash said what Dev heard the most in his industry.

They stared at one another again.

Dev didn’t mistake the interest given this time. Straight guys never held another man’s stare for this long.

He wasn’t sure if it was a good idea to fuck his first tenant. When he phrased it like that, the resounding answer was no, but man, he liked those green eyes on him.

“How ’bout that dinner?” Dev asked, letting his gaze travel the length of the pretty boy’s big body.

“I could be into eating.” Cash grinned. The smile held an easy camaraderie. Dev could use some easiness in his life right now. “Just so happens, I grabbed Pegasus City IPAs today. I could be convinced to share.”

“Decent enough,” Dev shot back good naturedly and started inside. “Come on back upstairs.”

~~~
Cash trailed behind Dev, taking in the man’s entire backside, from booted heels to powerful thighs that filled the well-worn jeans nicely. All that goodness led into one hellacious ass. His mouth watered, and for the briefest of seconds, he imagined exactly what that ass might look like completely bare.
