“Gage! What the—?”

Pushing her thighs apart, I dip down and lick my way slowly up her slit, causing her words to turn into a needy groan.

“Mine,” I growl, taking her clit between my lips and sucking on the swollen nub. “Tell me this pussy is mine.”

“Oh, God. Yes, it’s yours,” she breathes as I lay my tongue flat on the sensitive area and begin massaging circles, working her up the same way that toy was. The only difference is that, like this, I get to taste her juices and feel her body shaking in pleasure. I work her up higher and higher until she explodes around my tongue, coating me with her orgasm. I don’t stop, wanting every bit of her desire until she’s pushing my head away.

“That was way better than my rose,” she admits, her tone relaxed and sated.

I crawl up her body and kiss her. I expect her to pull back since my mouth is coated with her pleasure, but instead, she licks the seam of my lips and moans. My dick swells in my pants at the sound, wanting to join the fun, but I push the thought aside because we’re taking shit slow.

My phone rings in the background, and with one more quick kiss, I get off her, grabbing the toy and pressing the power button several times until it finally stops vibrating.

“Oh, thank God,” she mutters. “That thing is getting thrown in the garbage.”

I laugh, tossing it at her.

“Ewww, Gage!”

“What? It’s your juices.” I lick my lips, and she rolls her eyes. “Paul’s waiting for me. I forgot my phone. I’ll be back soon.”

“Or… we could go together,” she suggests. “Go out to dinner.”

“We’d be seen together,” I point out, “and nobody knows about you guys yet.”

“So you can tell them. Post it while we’re on our way.” She crawls over to me and wraps her arms around me, still naked from the waist down. “Rory’s your daughter, and I’m your girlfriend. I don’t want us to be a secret. If you want people to know, I’m okay with that.”

“You’re sure?” I ask, loving that she used the word girlfriend to describe what she is to me. “Once we do this, there’s no going back. No matter what happens, it will all be in the public eye.”

“I’m sure.” She presses her lips to mine. “I trust you to make sure we’re protected.”

And just like that, with that one sentence, I fall even harder for the woman in my arms. She has every reason not to trust me, yet here she is, slowly giving me her trust. As I look into her vulnerable green eyes, I vow to never break that trust.

“All right, let’s do this.”

CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO

SADIE

As Paul drives us to pick up Rory, Gage goes over what he’s going to post on social media with Bailey—who’s in charge of Blackwood's social media—and my thoughts drift to the past hour. How we explored my new home. Things getting heated with Gage until the moment was cut short because Rory needed to be picked up. Gage walking in and taking over when I was attempting to finish what we started.

After he made me come, I thought he would try to take the next step and have sex. I wasn’t sure how I would react, afraid the flashbacks and memories of him being with those other women would hit. Until the moment came when I orgasmed, and then he pulled back, not even trying for more. I didn’t have a single thought about our past, not a flash of what happened the night he pushed me away, and it made me realize that I’m ready to move forward with Gage. I was just as shocked as he was when I referred to myself as his girlfriend, but I must admit that it felt right when the word came out. Being with Gage feels right.

He’s spent the past month and a half showing me every day how much he’s changed and how important Rory and I are to him. Two of the days after practice, he texted to let me know he was going to a meeting before coming over, extending an invitation to join him when I’m ready. He said he doesn’t want to keep the two worlds separate, that his recovery is a part of his life and will always be, and he wants us to be a part of that. I never got that from Vincent, and I know now it’s because he wasn’t really trying to get clean. He was lying, putting on a front, and hiding shit, but Gage… he’s up front about everything. And that makes me want to take the next step with him.

“Is this okay?” Gage asks, handing me his phone. As I read the statement he typed up—stating that after the past sixteen months of working on himself, getting clean, and fighting every day to stay that way, he’s back, and with him is his daughter and girlfriend—tears fill my eyes. While meant to be positive and uplifting, his words are a harsh reminder that if Gage had been successful at taking his life, we wouldn’t be here. Rory never would’ve gotten to meet her dad, and Gage and I wouldn’t be getting this second chance. The statement is accompanied by a selfie we took while at the park with Rory. We’re smiling at the camera with her in the middle.
