“That would be amazing. I could put all sorts of fun and cheerful stuff up there,” Valerie enthused.
“No ladder unless I’m home, Cupcake,” Grayson said, laying down the law with a tone that made Jordi stand straight.
“No…way.” Valerie answered with a pause between her words like she meant to say something else.
She might not wish to sit down. He calls her Cupcake. I could swear Daddy was the word she wanted to say. Is Grayson a Daddy and Valerie a Little girl?
A thrill went through Jordi. They did exist. She’d read so many books about finding her Daddy.
Forcing herself to focus, she said, “This sounds like a fun project I’d love to work on. How about if I take a picture of your sketch and jot down some measurements to create a plan and a cost estimate? I can get that to you next week.”
“I’d love that, Jordi. I think you’d be fun to work with,” Valerie said, casting a look at Grayson.
“I like your ideas and look forward to seeing your plan. We could make changes then if we wanted to?” Grayson asked.
“Of course. Until I order the work and all the hardware, we can alter the plan. I do charge for over three changes to the plan,” she warned.
“Some people get crazy with different design ideas, huh?” Valerie guessed.
“It’s important. I want this to be the perfect office for you. That just protects me from a customer that has me dedicate time to repeated changes and then decides not to do the project,” Jordi shared. “I’m a small business woman who wants to make people’s dreams come true.”
“We appreciate that, Jordi. We’ve heard very positive things about Cross Remodeling. We’ll look forward to seeing your design and the projected cost,” Grayson said as Valerie wrapped her arms around his waist.
“Thank you for letting me bid for the job. I promise I will do an excellent job for you as well. Shall I send the estimate and plan to your email?” Jordi asked.
“Send it to us both,” Valerie requested.
“Of course.”
In a few minutes, Jordi strolled out to her car. She was excited about the project and about getting to know Valerie better. This would also give her an excuse to go into that new hardware store. She’d stayed away because it was as dangerous for her to shop there as it would be for other women to go into a shoe store. Fancy tools and thing-a-ma-jigs? They were her weakness.
“I liked her, Daddy. There was something interesting about her,” Valerie suggested.
“I liked her, too, Little girl.”
“D-Did you get Little vibes from her?” Valerie asked hesitantly.
“Jordi was very professional. She may also be Little, but that’s her story to tell.”
“Yes, Daddy. I can’t wait until the office is done.”
“Neither can I, Cupcake. And I can’t wait to marry you and make you totally mine in every possible way.” He kissed her lips.
Valerie lifted her left hand to stare at the ring her Daddy had put on her finger Sunday afternoon in front of her parents. She still couldn’t believe it. “Think Ellie would make me a cupcake wedding cake?” Valerie asked.
“Let’s go see her. We can get a few more of that new flavor, Caramel Drizzle.”
“Yum!”
