From where he sat, it even looked like she cracked a joke with Crew. He didn’t feel the need to worry about him saying something ignorant to her because Cabrera didn’t leave his side. Nox knew the younger DEA agent would cut the older DEA agent off at the knees if he said anything stupid.
Nox thanked fuck for the women in their lives.
All had spines of steel. None took any shit. They also had no issue with speaking out and putting someone in their place when necessary.
When their thirty-minute pit stop was coming to an end, Liyah’s eyes sparkled, and her hips swung smoothly as she made her way back to where he waited with his ass parked on a picnic table and his boots set on the attached bench.
When she finally reached him, he grabbed those hips and pulled her in between his spread knees. “You good?”
She practically hummed and looked pretty damn happy, but he wanted to hear it from her.
“Absolutely. It’s a beautiful day. The ride has been perfect. Everyone in your club has been great.”
“Everyone?”
She gave him a single nod. “Everyone. Crew’s a trip but entertaining. He seems to be outmatched when it comes to Cami, despite her youth.”
“He is, even though he’ll never admit it. She’s a lot sharper than him.”
She tilted her head to the side and locked eyes with him. “A federal task force was mentioned a few times. I was told that some of the BAMC members are a part of it and working a case. Are you on it?”
Nox pulled in a breath. He hadn’t told her anything about his special assignment. He really hadn’t anticipated their unexpected connection would last as long as it had so far.
But here they were.
She just met his family.
Maybe it was time to tell her about the task force, even though the investigation was wrapping up. He trusted her not to say a word to her outlaw biker father.
He was damn sure Magnum knew who the Deadly Demons were. And he was damn sure that the sergeant at arms of the Knights was monitoring what the Demons were doing, especially after they had expanded their territory into Pennsylvania.
The Demons and the Knights were now practically neighbors.
He had no doubt that the Knights were fierce when it came to protecting their territory and that they shared intel with the Dirty Angels. Though, the Angels weren’t to say a word to anyone about Fletch and Wilder going undercover in their MC.
The unmistakable roar of another group of what sounded like Harleys could be heard heading in their direction.
Nox stared at the entrance to the area where they had taken their break. His spine snapped straight hoping like fuck it wasn’t the Deadly Demons.
Wouldn’t that be a fucking kicker.
But as the formation of bikes turned into the lot, he recognized the club’s colors.
He wasn’t the only one.
No one was expecting to see the MC that was about to join their party.
Chapter Thirty-Four
Nox muttered under his breath, “What the fuck?”
“Shit. Shit. Shit,” Liyah chanted in a whisper when she saw him, too.
Not just him but them.
When it came to Nox, dealing with her father one-on-one was one thing, dealing with his whole MC was another.
Apparently, like the Blue Avengers, the Dark Knights decided today would be a great day for their club run, as well as taking a break at the same location.
Of course, they were all wearing their colors.
And, of course, so were the BAMC. Including the member she had her arms wrapped around for the last couple of hours.
This could go one of two ways…
The two clubs could ignore each other. Pretend the other didn’t exist and continue on their runs.
Or… they could not.
If they didn’t, she wasn’t going to even begin to imagine what that would be like. Unfortunately, she didn’t really know the majority of the BAMC members well enough yet. Cross and Axel and their spouses, yes. Nox, of course. But the rest? She had no idea if they would stay cool, calm and collected or make a sport out of butting heads with an outlaw MC.
Either way, it wasn’t going to be any kind of Kumbaya moment. Expecting any kind of hand holding, singing and swaying around a campfire with someone playing an acoustic guitar would be laughable.
Peace, love and harmony and all that happy crap.
She only hoped there wouldn’t be any kind of clashes. Or taunting.
Or, worse, bloodshed.
The Knights’ formation—led by Cisco, their road captain—slowed the second they spotted the lineup of bikes belonging to the Blue Avengers. She also knew the exact moment her father spotted her. In fact, his wife was super helpful by whacking Magnum on the shoulder and pointing her way.
Thanks, Cait.
Though, she couldn’t be mad at her stepmother. It was inevitable Liyah would’ve been spotted, even without her help. The only way to avoid being seen would be to run into the woods and duck behind a tree. She certainly wasn’t doing that because, damn it, she had nothing to hide.
