“Hi! What can I help you with?” Alexis Jamison stared up at him with a gleam in her eye a girl her age shouldn’t have when it came to a full-grown man in his thirties.

Honestly, Nova couldn’t blame the girl. Fletch was hot as fuck, even though she’d been trying to ignore that fact for the past week. An almost impossible feat.

Fletch raised one eyebrow at the girl, then jerked his chin toward the back of the store. “I’m here to see Kitten.”

“Oh! You’re Ghost!” she said a little too loudly, poking his name patch on his cut. “Kitten talks about you.”

His brown eyes lifted from Lexi and found Nova again. “She does?”

“She was right.”

Nova could hear his low rumble from where she stood. “‘Bout what?”

“How damn hot you are. Too bad you already have an ol’ lady.”

Clearly, Fletch hadn’t been prepared for that statement, but he recovered quickly and smoothly with, “Even if I didn’t, you’re too young to be an ol’ lady.”

“I won’t be young forever,” Lexi assured him with a wink and a whole lot of sass.

Nova groaned under her breath, then turned and gave Ivy a pointed look through the window separating the counter area and Ivy’s office. With raised eyebrows, she tipped her head toward Fletch and the woman’s very ambitious daughter.

Ivy shot up from her seat and peered out of the office window. Her lips pressed together, she shook her head and, with an annoyed expression, came around to the open office door.

“Lexi!” Ivy yelled.

Fletch’s eyes flicked from Ivy to Lexi and back to Ivy. “Gonna take a wild guess that you two are related.”

“That’s Ivy,” Lexi said, flipping a dismissing hand over her shoulder toward her mother.

“Already met her,” Fletch informed the teenager, amusement tinging his response.

“You mean Mom,” Ivy corrected her with a sigh.

Lexi turned to where Ivy now stood next to Nova, who struggled to keep her own amusement from her face.

The teen rolled her eyes. “That’s my mom, Ivy.”

“That’s better,” Ivy said. “Now, go back to whatever you were doing. And if I find you hiding in a corner on your phone, I’m taking it away again. For a whole week this time. We’re not paying you to make TikTok videos.”

The huge smile she previously pointed toward Fletch fell into a tight frown. “I wasn’t.”

“I’m going to check your account to see what you’re posting and when.”

“I didn’t, Mom!”

“You better not be lying. If you want to earn spending money, then you need to actually earn it.”

Lexi sighed, slapped on a tight smile, not so flirtatious this time, and said to Fletch, “See you around, Ghost.” She disappeared between two rows of shelves.

“Jag needs to remind me again why he thought it was a good idea to have kids,” Ivy muttered and disappeared back into her office.

Nova rolled her lips under and watched Fletch as he finished his journey to where she stood without being sidetracked again.

“What are you doing here?” she asked him.

“Can’t come see my ol’ lady?”

Nova lifted her eyebrows in answer.

“You done for the day?”

She glanced up at the clock on the wall. Damn, she’d lost track of time. “I guess I am now. Is there something we need to do?”

He tapped his fingers on the display case, leaving marks behind. “Yeah.”

She sighed, sprayed the spot with glass cleaner again, making him jerk his hand away, and wiped away the fingerprints with the cloth.

“Anal much?” he grumbled, drying off his wet hand on his jeans.

“No, I haven’t done it much.”

“N— Kitten.”

At his tone, she realized maybe teasing him about sex wasn’t smart. “It was a joke.”

He stared at her, definitely not finding her answer funny.

The past week had been a bit awkward between them. Luckily, the morning after they had sex, Nova had started working at the pawn shop and Fletch at the gun shop, so they were apart most of the day. In the evenings, they would head over to the DAMC’s clubhouse to hang out there for a bit, grabbing dinner and some drinks at The Iron Horse Roadhouse. It was the perfect spot to be seen together and, more importantly, wearing their cuts. But they tended to have more conversation with other people than with each other. And, of course, taking the Harley there and back made it impossible for them to talk while they rode, too.

Nova guessed Fletch was still out of sorts after what she said in the bathroom on Sunday.

He had assumed she’d been disappointed in the sex when that was the farthest thing from the truth, but it had been easier to resist him by not dispelling that notion. Plus, with him thinking she didn’t want to have sex with him again, he had placed an invisible barrier between them.

Nova glanced around to make sure no one was standing close enough to overhear their conversation. Just to be safe, she lowered her voice anyway to ensure what she said was for his ears only. “By the way, I never told her you were hot.”
