“All of ‘em.” He tipped his head. “That means if we come across somethin’, ain’t sayin’ we should ignore it, but keep it close to the vest. For now.”

“Got it. Make note of it and collect evidence, if possible.”

“Yeah, but don’t go specifically lookin’ for anythin’. We promised the DAMC prez we’d look the other way on most minor shit with the club. However…”

“What these Shadows do are not minor crimes,” she finished for him.

“Bingo. And here’s the loophole, we only agreed to ignore the shit DAMC members do. The Shadows are not part of the DAMC.” He smirked. “That makes them fair game.”

“Got it,” she repeated.

“But keep that to yourself.”

“Of course. Who’s our main point of contact?”

“The club president, Zakary Jamison. Goes by Zak.”

“No road name?” she asked in surprise.

“Not all of them have ‘em. They tend to call him Z. He was the one most open to us usin’ their club to go undercover. The rest?” Fletch shook his head. “Not so fuckin’ much.”

“What do you know about him?”

“Got a wife and two boys. His main source of income’s a bakery in town, originally started by his wife prior to them gettin’ together. He’s also our BAMC president’s brother.”

“Damn. I bet that’s awkward at family gatherings.”

“Tell me about it. Especially since his dad also was with the Shadow Valley PD before he retired.”

“Talk about someone coming to a fork in the road.”

“Right. One fork led to his roots, the other led to a new beginning. Zak chose to follow in his grandfather’s footsteps.”

“He took the wrong path, while his father and brother took the right one.”

Fletch shrugged. “Depends on who you ask.”

That was true.

It didn’t matter if he was a cop or a biker. As long as he was happy with his choice, that was what mattered. And by letting them go undercover in the club, it seemed like he was trying to stay on the right side of the law.

“So you know, when it comes to the meth thing… When he was about twenty he was busted for stealin’ and possession of anhydrous ammonia. He did a dime at Fayette for it.”

“Damn. Do we need to worry that their club will get involved with trafficking meth along with the Demons?”

“Nope. From what I was told by Axel Jamison and I’m not sure it’s the whole story… it was a complete set-up by the former club prez. ‘Cause the Demons are distributin’ meth, I think that kinda helped sway him to let us go undercover with their club.”

Huh. Now that was interesting. “I guess he’s not doing it for the greater good of society as a whole?” Her question was a bit tongue-in-cheek, of course.

“An MC has their own society of sorts. Everythin’ in their tight-knit community’s handled the same way.”

“Typical.”

“Right. Similar to La Cosa Nostra. Punishment’s doled out when needed. Issues are handled in house. Outsiders are kept just that… outside.”

“And I’m sure any punishment is handled swiftly.”

“That would be my guess.”

“But we’re outsiders and wear badges and they let us in the door, anyway.”

“Yep, but we still need to tread carefully. Need to respect them as much as possible so they don’t slam that fuckin’ door in our face and then lock us out.”

In the years she’d been a special agent, she had seen a lot of shit she had to ignore for the good of the investigation as a whole. This assignment would be no different.

As long as someone wasn’t in any immediate danger, she had no problem looking the other way. That didn’t mean she didn’t file away that info for future use.

“When do we start working?”

“The jobs? On Monday. But Sunday we officially become a Dirty Angel and his ol’ lady.”

Since it was Friday night, that gave them another day to get used to each other as a “couple” and formulate a plan on how soon they could reach out to the Demons. In her book, the sooner the better.

She unfolded her legs, got to her feet and arched her back to stretch it. “That it for tonight since we have all day tomorrow before we officially become Ghost and,” she grimaced, “Kitten?”

Of course that nickname made him grin. Asshole.

“One more thing… Sunday they have a club run and after they’re havin’ a pig roast. It’s a normal activity for the club and everyone who can be is supposed to be there. Since we’re now DAMC, that means we need to show. It’ll be a good opportunity to sit back and observe their way of life so we fit in better.”

“A pig roast, huh?”

“You ain’t a vegan, are you?”

She rounded the couch, answering, “Nope, I like my meat. In all forms,” before heading down the hallway with the envelope.

That would be tonight’s reading material before bed.

Chapter Ten

Bacon. Hash browns? Coffee!

Her stomach growled at her breakfast dream, waking her up. She blinked. Nope, wasn’t a dream. She inhaled the scent deeply.
