Crew scratched the back of his neck and his jaw shifted. “Yeah, I remember Mitch going off the deep end when that all went down. I thought he came around.”

“To a point, he did. But remember, tolerance isn’t quite the same as acceptance. So, if you want to do this, I might not be your best bet, but I’m your only bet.”

“Got it.” Crew turned to Cross. “Can you nudge hubby to get Zak to call Jamison back?”

Cross shrugged. “I can mention it to him. But he’ll ask a shitload of questions about it.”

“For now, just tell them it’s a family matter.”

Cross’s nostrils widened and his mouth twisted. “No. I’m not fucking lying to him. And, hell, Axel lives in the same neighborhood as his brother. All he has to do is go knock on Z’s damn door.”

“The fuck if I’m knocking on anyone’s door in that neighborhood if they’re not aware that I’m coming first. I’ll get Bella to talk to Sophie at the bakery. Sophie’s good about getting shit done, especially when it comes to our family. I’ll tell Bella that it’s important my brother get a hold of me.”

“You live two fucking streets away from each other. Your kids spend time together. Your wives run a business together,” Finn said.

“Look, I try not to create waves, since one small ripple can turn into a tsunami. I tread lightly for Bella and our kids.”

“Kids you wouldn’t have if it wasn’t for the generosity of Sophie and Ivy,” Cross reminded him.

“And that right there is another reason I try not to stir up shit. I owe both of those women big time. As well as Zak for allowing his wife to be our surrogate.”

“And Jag for allowing Ivy to donate her eggs,” Cross added.

Fletch had a hard time wrapping his head around the whole Jamison and Dougherty bloodlines. He might have to get it straight if he went undercover with that club.

Jamison released a long sigh. “Okay, I’ll work on it and let you know once I talk to him.”

“Sooner than later,” Crew advised.

“Right.” Jamison nodded. “What about the Knights? Once I talk to Zak, I can ask him to reach out if you want them there, too. They’re close allies.”

“Let’s hold off meeting with them for now. I don’t want too many people in on what we’re doing. Let’s take the temperature of your brother and his sidekicks first. If they shut us down and out, then we’ll have to come up with another plan. There might not be any reason to approach the Dark Knights.”

“It’s possible to put someone undercover with them, too,” Fletch suggested. “My guess is that they still follow the outlaw ways, unlike the Angels. And if they do, it might be more believable if one of our TFOs wearing Knight colors reaches out and make some deals with the Demons.”

Crew ground his hand back and forth against the back of his neck. “One of the requirements to be a member of the Knights is to be Black. That’s not negotiable from what I understand. The only two Black TFOs I have are Powers and Reynolds.”

“I would think the Knights wouldn’t be willing to let your TFOs in their ranks. Voluntarily, anyway,” Cross warned. “If you think the DAMC hates cops, the Knights are worse. Because you’re right, compared to the DAMC, they still follow the outlaw ways. Even if they were willing to work with your task force—and honestly, I can’t imagine they would be—I doubt they’d go as far as allowing a badge to wear their colors.”

“Yeah, I get it. I’d rather stick to the Angels for now since we have a connection with them through Cross and Jamison. Keep the Knights as a backup plan, if needed. The Demons are closing in on the DAMC’s territory, not the Knights’.”

“But they’re strong allies,” Jamison reminded Crew. “The Knights won’t hesitate to join forces with the Angels in a war against the Demons. Even if they weren’t strong allies, they’d do it because if the Demons take over Shadow Valley and the surrounding area, what’s to say they won’t stop and keep marching north. Those two clubs won’t wait to be on the defensive, they’ll go on the offensive first to squash any territory grab. They’ll take out the threat before it takes them out. No one in either club will allow what happened with the Shadow Warriors to ever happen again.”

“They’d be afraid of history repeating itself,” Crew murmured as he processed that info. “Makes sense. Because of that, we need to be careful. We can’t spark a war between three clubs. My ass would be handed to me at the same time I’m handing over my badge.”

“And you have child support and alimony to pay.” Sitting to Jamison’s left, Rez snickered.

Crew shook his head. “Thanks for that reminder, asshole.”
