“You’re welcome. What shall we watch?”
“The…movies?”
“Yes, movies.”
“They come in themes like books. Pick a theme and I’ll play one.”
“Let’s laugh. If you have anything with humor and action, I’m sold.”
Using my magic, I produce a binder with humor and action movies. Bach said Father had them categorized. This makes it easier to find one to watch.
“This sounds good,” Argon says, pointing to one.
I touch the title and bring the image up before us on a white backdrop. I smile, feeling quite pleased with myself. Ms. Posh and Bach float in with popcorn and drinks.
“Movie night,” Argon says beside me. I turn to find him staring at the side of my face. “That’s what they would call this.”
“Oh.”
I turn back to the movie and focus on it so I don’t fall into his eyes. We sit quietly and watch. I like this. It’s simple but fun.
The movie comes to an end, and I sigh. “I love their clothes,” I whisper. “I still have glossy picture books of their clothes. I… sometimes I dress like them and put on shows for Soila and Hiasha.”
“Fashion shows and magazines. The glossy picture books are magazines.”
“You know a lot about their realm. I love their music too. It’s just been so long since I’ve heard any.”
“Have you never been to the earth realm?”
“No, father promised to take me, but he died before he got the chance.”
“Sorry to hear that.”
“I’ve never heard you speak of your mother. Is it okay if I ask about the queen?”
“It’s fine. Mother passed on. It devastated everyone. It’s just me and Father now.”
“I’m sorry. I never knew my mother. She died when I was still a baby.”
He nods and works his jaw. I feel bad for bringing up his mother. I think quickly before he asks to end the night. I don’t want him to go.
“Shall we watch another?” we say at the same time.
We both laugh; I nod and use my magic to place the binder in his lap again. He lifts it and puts it in mine.
“No, you pick this time.”
“Oh, in that case.”
I wave a hand and switch the binder out for the romantic comedies. Dinesh suggested I start out with one of these. However, Argon is my guest, so I gave the choice to him.
I find one that pulls my interest and start it. I find myself smiling halfway through. This night is perfect.
Chapter 18
Recharge
Blaise
I had so much fun during our movie night I decided to do something fun for Argon today. Something to allow us to spend more time together. I know from looking into my orbs that he has been meditating to hold on to his magic.
I want to give him a chance to recharge. I didn’t trust him enough before to share this with him, but I don’t think he’ll try to escape like before. The last thing I want is for him to lose his magic.
That is my greatest fear. To lose my powers and never be able to use magic again. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone.
“Blaise,” Argon calls as he walks up behind me. I turn to him and smile. Dinesh and Bach are flying on each side of him. “These guys told me I’d find you out here. Is it okay for you to be this far out from the castle?”
“Yes, it’s fine,” I say and grab his hand. “I want to show you something.”
I take him past where the fire wall enchantment is. Here my power is still strong. However, this is also where his will begin to reawaken and recharge.
“Do you feel that?”
He looks down at me with wide eyes. I watch as he lifts his hand and his magic sparks to life. His eyes glow a bright blue like the magic circling his hand.
“But how?” he breathes.
“Your magic will always begin to recharge once you get to this point. I thought you would like to stretch it and use it for a bit.”
“Why would you tell me this? Aren’t you afraid I will try to take advantage?”
“No, you are my friend. Friends trust friends. Now, would you like to train with real magic, or should we go back inside where I need to loan you mine?”
A slow grin comes to his face. He holds a hand up and a bow appears. He lifts a brow. “Feeling like some archery?”
“I thought you’d never ask.”
I flick my wrist and targets appear before us in the distance. Argon allows a blue ray of light to form in his empty hand. Pulling the bow tight, he releases the bolt of light.
It hits the target smack in the center. The sound of impact is deafening. So much so, I cover my ears.
“See, your strength has returned,” I say with a smile.
“Not quite, my friend, not quite,” he says with a wide smile of his own.
