A cry sounded and alarmed, I turned to look over at my daughter who was nestled against the bust of my white wedding gown. She’d been napping and had just awoken once more. Even when she was crying, I still thought she was the most angelic and perfect baby I had ever seen. I reached out and stroked the soft blonde curls atop her head.

“Shush, it’s okay, baby girl, you’re okay,” I murmured to her before pressing my lips to the soft skin of her forehead.

She gurgled and closed her eyes once more, snuggling up to my side once more. I felt Griff step a little closer to my other side. One of his hands reached out to stroke little Isabelle’s back as she slept. “Are you sure you don’t want me to take her?” he offered in a quiet voice as his cloudy gray eyes swept over the two of us.

“No, it’s okay,” I reassured him with a smile. “I like holding her.”

“I know, but she’s getting heavier everyday and you’ve been holding her for most of the day,” he argued. “I don’t want you to tire yourself out.”

I reached up on my tip toes and pressed a kiss to his cheek. “You’re sweet, but I’m honestly fine,” I told him with a smile.

“Okay then, as long as you’re sure.”

We gazed at each other for a little while longer before a shout from the officiant of the ceremony caught our attention.

“Arriving at the falls now!” he cried. “Please, everybody gather round so I can begin.”

From inside the boat we rented for the event, our friends and family emerged around the makeshift altar that Griff and I were stood at. Griff’s mother was dabbing at her eyes with a handkerchief as she approached and Shelley was glancing at her own reflection in her compact mirror as she clung tight to the edge of the boat. Behind them, Isaac and Mr. Anderson appeared looking professional as ever in smart suits and ties. They were muttering to each other, no doubt about some business topic or another that just couldn’t wait until tomorrow. I smiled. I understood, Griff was much the same at times but not today. Today was special.

The roar of the falls was almost deafening as our officiant began speaking and I giggled before glancing up at Griff once more to see if he was just as amused as I was. His smile was dazzling as he glanced down at me and I struggled to pay attention to anything but him.

“Welcome friends and family to the wedding of Miss Remy Nelson and Mr. Griffin Strong,” the officiant announced loudly. “We are all here today to bear witness to the union of these two unique souls as they are bound together eternally in holy matrimony. The couple have chosen to write their own vows, so Griff, you may begin.”

The man in question took a step away from me and turned so he could look down at me properly. He held my hand in his as he spoke and his gaze was unwavering as he watched me. “Remy, there are no words to describe how much I adore you,” he began, raising his voice in a valiant effort to fight the rushing of the water behind us. “But I want to at least try and explain it to you anyway.” He smiled. “I’ve never before met a woman as perfect for me as you are, Remy. Right from the very start, you understood me in ways I didn’t even understand myself and I’ll never be able to thank you enough for that, not even if I get to live a thousand years.”

Tears welled in my eyes and Griff squeezed my hand reassuringly. I could see emotion clouding his eyes as he continued, “You taught me how to be a better man just by being you, Remy. Everyday I want to prove that I can be the right man for you and that I can make you happy and so far, I feel like I’ve managed that, but I won’t ever stop trying. You even gave me my beautiful little girl, Isabelle, and I can’t wait for you to give me many more children too. I’m so excited for our family to grow and our love to become stronger than ever. Remy, you’re my whole world.”

The water in the air from the falls masked the majority of my tears as they cascaded down my cheeks in little trails and I was thankful for that. After Griff’s little speech, I wasn’t sure I could manage my vows without breaking down in tears, but thankfully, I’d chosen to keep mine short and sweet. I cleared my throat before I spoke.

“Griffin Strong, you are the sun to my moon, the yin to my yang, and the apple to my pie,” I began with a giggle. “You complete me. I never knew what being whole was like until I met you and I’ll never stop loving you until the day I die.”
