My heart had never beat so hard in my life. “Jesus, sweetheart.” I pushed to my feet, walked over to him, and pulled Brian into my arms.

“All I care about is that I’m with you,” he said.

“That makes two of us.” I didn’t need to be in New York full-time. I didn’t think I wanted that, but I did know Mom was right, and I did need to find something that was mine in Ryland. Whatever happened, though, I knew Brian and I would tackle our decisions together and make it work.

Mom was crying as she came over to us. “I’m sorry if you heard what I said this morning. I didn’t mean any offense. You’re a good man, and I’m proud to have you as part of the family.”

“Thanks, Rhonda. That means a lot to me.”

There was another round of hugging after that, this one with my dad joining in too.

“I’m sorry I ruined your day,” Brian said.

“You didn’t. You have absolutely nothing to apologize for. We’re family now, and family sticks together. Whatever you need, John and I will be here for you,” Mom told Brian, who swiped at a lone tear and nodded.

We all chatted and made lunch together, no more heaviness weighing down on us. I told her we went to see Paul, which led to my parents telling Brian stories of my brother and me from when we were growing up.

Every time Brian laughed, I could tell it was real.

I couldn’t wait for more days like this to come.

CHAPTER TWENTY-NINE

Brian

“I have an idea,” Charles said when we got back to his place.

“Okay.” He took my hand and led me to the bathroom in his bedroom. I was surprised when he went to the deep, old-fashioned claw-foot tub and started the water. “You’re taking a bath?”

“We’re taking a bath.”

“Okay,” I said again. I wasn’t sure how well we would fit, and this hadn’t been what I’d expected, but there was no denying it sounded nice. Being naked with Charles always made me feel so close to him, like we were an extension of each other, our bodies meant to fit and mold together, skin-to-skin, him lending me that contagious energy of his that made me feel alive.

I took off my shoes, and he did too. When I went for my shirt, Charles swatted my hands away with a soft, “I like doing these things for you, like knowing you give pieces of yourself to me that you haven’t shared with others in the same way.”

I let him tug my tee over my head, watched his fingers as they unbuttoned my jeans and lowered my zipper. He knelt as he pulled them down, along with my briefs, my soft cock hanging between my legs.

“Can I?” he asked, and when I nodded, he kissed my crown, then sucked me into his mouth. He used his mouth on me for a moment, and when my cock didn’t stiffen, he kissed one hip and then the other. “You smell so good.”

“Sorry…I can talk to a doctor about that too.” Jesus, I was a fucking mess, but regardless, Charles wanted me, he loved me, and that was inspiring.

“You don’t have anything to apologize for.” Amazingly, I knew he meant that. He didn’t see me as broken or, hell, maybe everyone was broken in some ways and that was actually what it meant to be normal.

I helped Charles to his feet. He turned the water off before I took his clothes off. I knelt, licking and sucking his throbbing erection like he’d done with my cock, followed by one kiss to his left hip, a second to his right. I looked up at him, and he was smiling at me. “I’ve felt a lot of good in my life, but none of it has ever felt as good as you.”

Hearing that made some movement start going on in my groin.

I stood, and Charles climbed into the tub first, leaning against the back with his legs spread. It was wider than I’d originally thought, and when he motioned for me to sit between his legs, I did. It was tight but comfortable. It wasn’t as if I didn’t always want to be close to him anyway. Charles pulled me down so my back was against his chest. He wrapped his legs around me, a husky sigh falling from my lips. “I wish we could live right here.”

“We can,” Charles said. “We can end every day just like this if we want to.”

“Sounds…happy. You make me feel that, for the first time in my life.”

“Jesus, I love you.” He nuzzled my nape, kissing and sucking on my skin. We relaxed that way as the water got cold, but I didn’t think either of us wanted to move. Everything was perfect right here where we were.
